KBO Predictions and Analysis – Wednesday, April 21 (2021)
We saw plenty of surprising results in the first round of South Korean baseball for the week. I’m sure that many teams will be eager to find revenge, and I explore their chances to win the second games of their series in my KBO predictions for April 21.
The post includes a quick look at the team news and my thoughts on what happened in the opening encounters. I haven’t included any betting picks since the odds and lines are not yet available online.
Here are all games that are part of my KBO predictions for Wednesday.
- Kia Tigers vs. LG Twins
- KT Wiz Suwon vs. NC Dinos
- Doosan Bears vs. Lotte Giants
- SSG Landers vs. Samsung Lions
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. Hanwha Eagles
Kia Tigers to Beat LG Twins
I really thought that the LG Twins would bounce back after losing two in a row at the end of last week, but they underperformed in the series opener against the Tigers too. The offense is simply not working right now, and every time the defense isn’t close to perfect, the team suffers.
I expect something similar in the next game because the Tigers have the momentum right now. Their offense looked good on Tuesday, and they will face one of the worst starting pitchers of the opposition.
That’s enough for me to back Kia on Wednesday, but I urge you to be careful. The Tigers are expected to use a youngster who doesn’t have much experience at the highest level, so they will also be vulnerable.
NC Dinos to Beat KT Wiz Suwon
I was a bit arrogant in my KBO predictions for the previous round and completely underestimated KT Wiz Suwon. The team managed to dismantle the Dinos, and the reigning champions couldn’t find any offensive rhythm.
That could spell trouble in the next game, especially since KT Wiz is expected to start a decent pitcher like William Cuevas.
And yet, the Dinos have managed to respond well after defeats more than once this season already, so I prefer to go for them to win the second game of the series on Wednesday.
Doosan Bears to Beat Lotte Giants
The Lotte Giants destroyed the opposition in the first clash, and the defenses of both sides look shaky in the process. I expect something similar on Wednesday because we should see two starting pitchers with an ERA of over 10 so far in the season.
And yet, Lotte looked strong in the opener, so I’m not too confident in my prediction. If the Giants gain some momentum early on, this one could easily go in their favor.
Samsung Lions to Beat SSG Landers
My expectations of a high-scoring game one between the Lions and the Landers came true, but SSG found more runs to open the series with a victory.
I believe that the Lions should bounce back on Wednesday because it’s David Buchanan’s turn in the rotation, and he’s one of the top pitchers in South Korean baseball.
The American should be able to handle the opposition, while the Landers are expected to use a guy who was demolished in his season opener. The Lions are my favorite in this one, and a win for them makes the most sense.
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat Hanwha Eagles
I expected a win for the Eagles in the previous round, and they got one rather easily. The Heroes are struggling badly right now, but if there’s someone who could stop the negative streak, it has to be Eric Jokisch.
He’s their best starting pitcher and one of the top players in South Korean baseball as a whole. I expect him to contain the Eagles in game two on Wednesday and provide his own offense with enough breathing room.
It’s hard to trust the Heroes right now, but that’s the sensible choice when Jokisch is starting against a mediocre team like the Hanwha Eagles.
