KBO Predictions and Analysis – Thursday, April 15 (2021)

| April 14, 2021 12:24 pm PDT

The next round of games in the South Korean baseball league is scheduled for Thursday, and I explore all clashes in my KBO predictions for April 15.

The post includes my analysis and a quick overview of the projected starting lineups. There are no betting picks included since the odds at baseball betting sites are not out yet.

And here are all games I cover in my KBO predictions for Thursday.

  • Hanhwa Eagles vs. Samsung Lions
  • KT Wiz Suwon vs. Doosan Bears
  • LG Twins vs. Kiwoom Heroes
  • Lotte Giants vs. Kia Tigers
  • NC Dinos vs. SSG Landers

Samsung Lions to Beat Hanwha Eagles

The Samsung Lions have been struggling big time against the Hanwha Eagles so far, but we might see a change in their fortunes in the third game of the series. David Buchanan is expected to start this one, and he has been one of Samsung’s best pitchers.

The American should be able to handle the Eagles offense, and that’s only part of the issue for Hanwha. The team’s own starter is Kim Yi-Hwan, who had an ERA of over 6.50 last year and has struggled to deliver quality games.

I believe that backing the Lions is the smart choice in this one, and they should be able to bounce back on Thursday.

KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Doosan Bears

The teams each have recorded one win so far in this series, and both games have been close. I believe that the third one is tough to predict, too, mostly because of the starting pitchers.

William Cuevas might get the nod for KT Wiz Suwon, but he missed the last game when it was his turn because of soreness, so we don’t know for sure.

At the same time, the Bears will use a player who struggled badly in his opening game of the season, and his stats from previous years aren’t exactly stellar either.

I’m torn, and this one could include a ton of runs for both sides. I still prefer to back KT Wiz in my KBO predictions because Cuevas should be fit to start, and he is the better pitcher.

Kiwoom Heroes to Beat LG Twins

This one is simple – I see Eric Jokisch start, I back the Heroes. The American has the highest win percentage in the KBO since joining the league in 2020, and he’s just crushing souls in South Korean baseball.

I don’t think that the Twins will score many on Thursday and the only bright light is their own starter Ham Deok-Ju who was decent in the previous two seasons.

His only start in 2021 was pretty rough, though, and the Kiwoom Heroes have more than enough weapons to punish any mistake, which is why I expect them to win game three of the series.

Kia Tigers to Beat Lotte Giants

The Kia Tigers won the second game of this clash after three extra innings. It was close, and both defenses were surprisingly good, but the Giants couldn’t take their opportunities.

The disappointment from the dramatic loss could affect Lotte’s performance in the next game, and the team news showcase other potential problems.

Rookie Kim Jin-Uk is expected to make his second start after giving up 6 runs in five innings in his debut. The youngster was shaky, and we could see something similar on Thursday.

The Tigers will also use a newcomer in Lee Eui-Lee, but he was excellent in his opening game and has way more confidence right now.

NC Dinos to Beat SSG Landers

The last of my KBO predictions is also one of the trickiest. Both sides are expected to send pitchers who have struggled badly since the start of the 2021 campaign. It could be a messy game with plenty of runs which suits the Dinos better.

Their offense is more potent and should punish the opposition. Still, the Landers should have enough opportunities to score, and it could get wild out there.

I’m backing the Dinos, but if SSG’s offense has a good day, the underdogs have a chance to snatch the victory.
