KBO Predictions and Analysis – Wednesday, May 26 (2021)
I don’t think anyone expected to see the SSG Landers on top of the KBO standings and the reigning champions NC Dinos seventh in the league after 40 games. That’s where we stand at the start of this week, and the elite South Korean baseball league has been wild so far.
I expect more of the same in the future, but let’s start with the round scheduled for May 26. I share my KBO predictions for Wednesday and my thoughts on every single game, including the following fixtures.
- Hanwha Eagles vs. Doosan Bears
- LG Twins vs. Lotte Giants
- SSG Landers vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- Samsung Lions vs. NC Dinos
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. Kia Tigers
Doosan Bears to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The Doosan Bears were in trouble after losing several games in a row last week, but they bounced back and finished it with two wins to climb back to the top half of the KBO table.
The team’s stats continue to look good in most areas, but the record is still worse than expected. There’s more than enough time to make up for that, though, and the winning run should continue on Wednesday.
Doosan has been better in every aspect so far, and I prefer picking the favorite in my KBO predictions.
LG Twins to Beat Lotte Giants
The LG Twins desperately need to stop their losing run of four in a row that sent them back to the second half of the standings. The team’s defense remains strong, but the offense has to find better consistency.
The batters will have an excellent opportunity to score some runs against the abysmal Giants on Wednesday. That’s the team with the worst KBO defense.
The bullpen has been abysmal up to this point of the campaign, and most starting pitchers aren’t much better either. Na Guyn-An is one of the few exceptions, but even if he does a good job, the last three or four innings will still be tough.
This game won’t be pretty, and I expect the Twins to edge their opponents thanks to their superior defense.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat SSG Landers
The SSG Landers are flying right now, and their strong run last week was enough to claim the top spot in the KBO table. I’m not sure how that happened when I look at the numbers.
The team has conceded more runs than it has scored, and the overall impression is that this is a rather average squad. And yet, SSG’s ability to win games shouldn’t be underestimated.
I don’t think the Landers will be able to win again versus KT Wiz, though. The opposition is starting a slightly better pitcher and has a better offense as a whole.
I would be careful with the Landers, but it looks like their winning run is about to end on Wednesday.
NC Dinos to Beat Samsung Lions
The Samsung Lions are having a better season than the NC Dinos so far, but I think that the KBO champions can still turn it around.
They have been inconsistent at times which is the reason behind their low league position. And yet, the difference to the top spot is only 2.5 victories right now, so I won’t be surprised to see the Dinos much higher in the rankings at the end of the regular season.
They are my favorite for Wednesday because of Shin Min-Hyeok, who has been excellent this season.
That’s enough for me to back the NC Dinos in my KBO predictions for May 26
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat Kia Tigers
Is there really any other option but to back the Kiwoom Heroes in this clash? After hitting rock bottom earlier this season, the team has now won nine of the last ten games in the KBO.
The offense is flying, and the pitchers have improved dramatically too. If this form continues, I won’t be shocked to see the Heroes at the top of the standings.
They have an excellent opportunity to earn more victories against the struggling Tigers.
The side will be using one of its stronger pitchers on Wednesday, but I don’t think this will be enough against the Heroes.
