KBO Predictions and Analysis – Wednesday, June 2 (2021)

| June 1, 2021 9:24 am PDT

This week’s opening round of KBO games brought us a mixed bag of demolition jobs and tight affairs. The losing teams will have the opportunity to back bounce back immediately against the same opponents on Wednesday.

I share my thoughts on their chances to succeed in my KBO predictions for June 2. The post includes a quick look at the previous round and an overview of the latest team news.

Here’s a full list of the games included in my KBO predictions for Wednesday.

  • Kia Tigers vs. Hanwha Eagles
  • KT Wiz Suwon vs. LG Twins
  • Lotte Giants vs. Kiwoom Heroes
  • Doosan Bears vs. NC Dinos
  • Samsung Lions vs. SSG Landers

Hanwha Eagles to Beat Kia Tigers

The Hanwha Eagles took control of the opening game of the series right from the start and never looked back. They beat the Tigers by 9-1 and certainly have the momentum going into the second clash on Wednesday.

Furthermore, the Eagles are about to start their most successful pitcher so far, Kim Min-woo. The guy has six victories in eight games on excellent stats.

He should be able to contain the struggling Tigers, while Kia’s projected starter has been shaky so far. If you add the abysmal bullpen, it should be easy for the Eagles to record enough runs to win this clash too.

KT Wiz Suwon to Beat LG Twins

I picked KT Wiz Suwon for the previous round, and the team delivered. My logic was simple – the LG Twins rely on their defense too much, and unless they have a huge advantage in the starting pitchers, I prefer going against them versus strong opponents like Suwon.

The situation is similar in the second clash of the series.

The two sides are sending comparable pitchers in terms of stats, and that’s better for KT Wiz.

Suwon will use Bae Je-Seong (3.18 ERA; 4-3), while the Twins will rely on Jeong Chan-Heon (3.54 ERA; 4-2).

LG has the superior bullpen, but KT Wiz has a way better offense, and that’s enough for me to pick Suwon in my KBO predictions for Wednesday.

Kiwoom Heroes to Beat Lotte Giants

The Kiwoom Heroes let me down a few times in a row now, and I’m not sure what to do with this team. It’s probably the most inconsistent KBO member who could beat the country’s strongest squads and lose against the weakest.

We saw the latter on full display in the previous round, and that makes me reluctant to share my prediction when it comes to the next clash of the series.

The Heroes have the much better starting pitcher, and they have been the stronger team since the start of the campaign, which would normally be enough to comfortably back them for a victory.

And yet, it feels like they can’t be trusted nowadays. I still prefer their chances for Wednesday’s game, but I’m not too confident in the outcome.

NC Dinos to Beat Doosan Bears

The opening clash between the NC Dinos and the Doosan Bears was very close, just as I expected. The reigning champions lost the encounter in the last inning, and I won’t be shocked if the next game is decided late too.

The starting pitchers of both sides have been solid up to this point of the campaign, so no one has the upper hand when it comes to this position.

The question here is which offense will show up. Both teams have been inconsistent in their scoring, so that’s a tough one. I prefer backing the Dinos because they tend to bounce back immediately after close defeats, but I won’t be shocked if the Bears come out on top again.

SSG Landers to Beat Samsung Lions

The SSG Landers continue marching on after a razor-tight 1-0 victory over the Lions in the previous round.

The team is expected to use Oh Won-Seok in the next clash, and he’s been inconsistent so far in 2021. The youngster had plenty of solid games, but some tough ones as well.

I can’t say I know much about Samsung’s starter, who is yet to feature in the KBO. That’s usually a bad sign for a player who’s 26, and I believe that SSG’s potent offense should be able to punish the opposition, so I’m backing the Landers once again.
