KBO Predictions and Analysis – Wednesday, June 16 (2021)
Only three of the KBO games from the previous round went through as expected, and two were postponed because of the weather conditions.
It doesn’t look like this will be a problem on Wednesday, so we will have the five regular fixtures on the schedule and the two postponed encounters from previous rounds.
I share my KBO predictions for June 16 for five of the matches in this post, as you can see from the list of games below.
- KT Wiz Suwon vs. NC Dinos
- LG Twins vs. Kiwoom Heroes
- Lotte Giants vs. Hanwha Eagles
- SSG Landers vs. KIA Tigers
- Samsung Lions vs. Doosan Bears
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat NC Dinos
I had KT Wiz Suwon beating the Dinos for the previous round, but the game fell through because of the weather. A quick look at the lineups shows that the KBO leaders should have the upper hand over the reigning champions despite the delay.
KT Wiz will rely on a good starting pitcher like Ko Young-Pyo, who has five victories from seven starts on solid stats.
In comparison, NC’s projected starter is a guy who has a 14.09 ERA so far this season and has looked very shaky in both his starts.
Just add Suwon’s stronger form to the equation, and it’s easy to see why a defeat for the NC Dinos makes the most sense in this one.
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat LG Twins
I expected a win for the LG Twins in the opening game of the series against the Kiwoom Heroes, and they delivered. The defense was once again instrumental for the success, but the second clash on Wednesday should be completely different.
The Twins often lose when their defense is not flawless, and I don’t think we can expect consistency from their young starter for this match Lee Sang-Yung.
At the same time, the Heroes are going to use a solid guy like Han Hyun-Hee, who has five wins from six starts in 2021. That’s enough for me to prefer them in my KBO predictions for June 16.
Hanwha Eagles to Beat Lotte Giants
The Eagles and the Giants are expected to play twice on Wednesday to make up for a postponed game from the previous series. I cover only the first one in my KBO predictions because there’s not enough information about the late clash right now.
Looking at the team news and the latest game between the two sides, I prefer the Eagles. They are expected to use a pitcher who looked really strong in both of his encounters against opponents from the bottom of the KBO table in 2021.
Lotte’s guy is decent too, but he had some shaky moments so far, and one of them came against the Eagles earlier in the campaign.
It will probably be close, but I feel like the Eagles should have the upper hand on Wednesday.
SSG Landers to Beat Kia Tigers
The Landers and the Tigers will also face each other twice. Once again, I will only share my thoughts on the opening clash for obvious reasons.
There’s not much to say about this one, to be honest. The Landers are the much stronger team overall, and they are starting a solid pitcher with a good record, while the Tigers have been struggling in pretty much every aspect of baseball.
If you add the fact that Kia is forced to start a pitcher who is yet to play this campaign, it’s hard to see how the Tigers can win here.
Samsung Lions to Beat Doosan Bears
I expected a very close opening game between these two and a complete massacre. I got this part right, but I thought that the Bears would edge the opposition, and it was the other way around.
The Lions should have a much easier ride on Wednesday based on the team news. Their best pitcher David Buchanan is getting the nod, while the Bears will use a guy who has allowed 26 runs in fewer than 19 innings played.
I simply don’t see how he could stop a prolific opponent like the Lions, so I’m going against the Bears in this one.
