KBO Predictions and Analysis – Wednesday, April 28 (2021)

| April 27, 2021 10:05 am PDT

This week’s opening round of KBO games was one of the few that didn’t bring too many surprises since the start of the season in South Korean baseball. Most of the teams expected to win did exactly that, but I’m sure that trend won’t continue for too long.

I share my expectation for the next round of fixtures in my KBO predictions for April 28. This post includes my thoughts on each team, the starting pitchers, and my analysis of their recent form.

Here are all the games covered in my KBO predictions for Wednesday.

  • Hanwha Eagles vs. Kia Tigers
  • KT Wiz Suwon vs. SSG Landers
  • Lotte Giants vs. LG Twins
  • NC Dinos vs. Samsung Lions
  • Doosan Bears vs. Kiwoom Heroes

Kia Tigers to Beat Hanwha Eagles

I thought that the Eagles might surprise the opposition in the previous game. They almost did, but the Tigers had a strong late run to turn it around and win by 4-3.

That was a good chance for Hanwha, but I’m afraid the second clash of the series will be much harder. The team is expected to start Jang Si-Hwan, who has three defeats and a 9.82 ERA so far in the league.

The Tigers should be able to punish his inconsistency, and it’s not like Hanwha’s bullpen can be relied upon either. If you add the fact that Kia’s starter was decent in his only game so far, the only logical outcome is a victory for the Tigers.

KT Wiz Suwon to Beat SSG Landers

KT Wiz Suwon dominated the opening game between these two, and the team won after scoring 14 runs. The Landers would be eager to bounce back on Wednesday, but I’m not sure they will be able to.

Both sides are sending decent but unspectacular pitchers, and that opens the door to another prolific game.

As we already saw, KT Wiz doesn’t mind, and this is the team in the best form based on the last ten rounds.

Suwon’s offense has been flying recently, so I prefer going against the Landers once again here. It should be closer than the first one, though.

LG Twins to Beat Lotte Giants

I backed the Twins mostly because of their defense in my previous round of KBO predictions. The team didn’t disappoint, winning by 4-0. With Casey Kelly expected to start on Wednesday, I’m not sure that the Giants would have many opportunities to score in game two either.

On the bright side, it’s Dan Straily’s turn in their rotation, and he certainly can keep the opponents quiet.

It should be a tight game, and I won’t be shocked if it’s decided by one or two runs when it’s all said and done.

That suits the Twins better, so I expect another victory in their favor on Wednesday.

NC Dinos to Beat Samsung Lions

The Samsung Lions completely dominated the opposition in the opening game, but I think it’s time for the reigning KBO champions to hit back.

They are sending Drew Rucinski out there, and he’s one of the best starting pitchers in the league. The American should provide some breathing room to the offense and relieve the pressure.

I don’t think that Samsung’s Ben Lively would be able to do the same on the other end, so I prefer to back the NC Dinos in my KBO predictions for Wednesday.

Doosan Bears to Beat Kiwoom Heroes

The Kiwoom Heroes got the job done on Tuesday, thanks to another stellar performance by Eric Jokisch. I don’t think that Wednesday’s projected starter Han Hyun-Hee can deliver on the same level, which spells trouble for the team.

On top of that, the Bears should use Walker Lockett, who has been excellent since arriving in South Korea before starting the 2021 campaign.

They also have the stronger offense and a slightly better bullpen than the opposition. I see more than enough reasons to back them, so I’m going for the Bears in this one.
