KBO Predictions and Analysis – Tuesday, May 11 (2021)
The best South Korean baseball teams had their traditional day off at the start of the week and should be ready to return to action on Tuesday.
There’s a full round of fixtures, and I cover them all in my KBO predictions for May 11. My analysis of each clash is based on the latest team news and the form of both sides.
Here’s a full list of the games scheduled for Tuesday.
- LG Twins vs. Kia Tigers
- NC Dinos vs. Hanwha Eagles
- SSG Landers vs. Lotte Giants
- Samsung Lions vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. Doosan Bears
LG Twins to Beat Kia Tigers
It feels like the Tigers are a worse version of the Twins. Both sides are struggling to score enough runs, but LG’s defense has been the best in the entire league; the squad sits second in the standings as a result.
It must be mentioned that the Twins have been better on the other end recently, too, scoring more than five runs on multiple occasions last week.
If you add the better starting pitcher of the favorite, it’s easy to see why I’m picking the LG Twins in my KBO predictions for Tuesday.
NC Dinos to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The NC Dinos showed signs of improvement last week, but their defense remains suspect. The good news is that it’s Drew Rucinski’s turn in the rotation on Tuesday, and he’s been one of the best pitchers ever since his arrival in South Korea.
I’m sure that the American can contain the opposition and the big question here is if the offense can deliver enough runs.
Hanwha’s starter Ryan Carpenter has been phenomenal this season, so I don’t have any doubts that he can deliver another strong performance.
The problem is that I don’t trust the Eagles’ bullpen, and the Dinos have the habit of punishing the opposition in the late innings. This one should be close in the first six or seven innings, but I expect the reigning champions to take over after that.
Lotte Giants to Beat SSG Landers
The SSG Landers have been the strangest team this year. They are in the top half of the KBO table, despite having the third-worst offense and the second-worst defense in the league.
A quick look at their games shows the explanation – when it goes bad for the side, it goes really bad. I believe we’re about to see an example of that in the upcoming games against the Giants.
Lotte have been struggling on the defensive end too this season, but it’s Dan Straily’s turn to pitch, and he’s one of the few guys in this team that can limit the opposition.
Samsung Lions to Beat KT Wiz Suwon
The Samsung Lions have exceeded all expectations with their performances in the KBO. This is the best baseball team in South Korea based on both form and standings since the start of the season. The squad has excellent both defensively and offensively.
For the game against KT Wiz, Ben Lively could be the hero with a strong defensive performance, or the offense could destroy the opposition, considering William Cuevas’ stats so far this campaign. It just feels like the Lions will win the opener, one way or another.
Doosan Bears to Beat Kiwoom Heroes
Both sides have been solid in their last ten games, winning six and losing four. That was enough for the Heroes to climb out of the bottom of the KBO rankings, but the team has to find more consistency to challenge for the playoffs.
It will be hard against a team like the Bears, and Doosan’s three straight victories suggest that the confidence is high right now.
On top of that, the Heroes are at a disadvantage when it comes to the starting pitchers. Their choice An Woo-Jin has been decent, but his counterpart Walter Lockett has been much better.
I see enough reasons to go with the Bears here, but the Heroes have shown improvement recently, and they have a chance.
