KBO Predictions and Analysis – Tuesday, June 15 (2021)

| June 14, 2021 9:52 am PDT

It feels like there’s a different team at the top of the KBO standings at the start of every week. It goes to show how competitive the top South Korean baseball league has been in 2021.

The first six sides are within 3.5 games, and even the seventh-placed Kiwoom Heroes are still in the hunt for the playoff spots.

Every single game is important, and the teams know that. I also consider it every time I share my KBO predictions, including the batch for Tuesday, June 15.

Some of the fixtures might be postponed because of the bad weather, but most of them should go ahead. Here’s a full list of the games covered in my KBO predictions for June 15.

  • KT Wiz Suwon vs. NC Dinos
  • LG Twins vs. Kiwoom Heroes
  • Lotte Giants vs. Hanwha Eagles
  • SSG Landers vs. KIA Tigers
  • Samsung Lions vs. Doosan Bears

KT Wiz Suwon to Beat NC Dinos

The game between KT Wiz Suwon and the NC Dinos could be postponed because the forecasts suggest that it might rain. I’m pretty sure that the reigning champions are hoping that’s truly the case because the team news doesn’t look good.

KT Wiz is expected to send a solid starter like Ko Young-Pyo, with five wins already on decent stats, while Lee Jae-Hak should get the nod for the Dinos. He was destroyed twice in the same number of games in 2021, allowing 12 runs in just below 8 innings.

Let’s not forget that KT Wiz won five in a row last week, and the squad is full of confidence right now. That’s enough for me to back the KBO leaders in the opening clash on Tuesday.

LG Twins to Beat Kiwoom Heroes

I normally prefer the Kiwoom Heroes when Erik Jokisch is expected to start, but this is going to be one of the exceptions for two reasons.

The Twins have been in excellent form recently, winning seven of their last ten games in the KBO.

LG is obviously flying right now, while the Kiwoom Heroes are way too inconsistent. On top of that, Jokisch already lost twice against the same opponent and looked shaky in both games.

The strong Twins defense should be able to get the job done, so that’s my preference here.

Hanwha Eagles to Beat Lotte Giants

Hanwha’s Ryan Carpenter is probably the unluckiest pitcher in the KBO. The American has a solid 3.01 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP, but his record includes two wins and six defeats.

Carpenter desperately needs more help from his offense, and I feel he might get it against the Giants on Tuesday. That’s the team with the worst defense in the entire league, so the Eagles should be able to score some runs.

Lotte’s starter is decent but the bullpen has been abysmal all season long, so if Carpenter has a solid performance, he should be able to lead his team to victory.

SSG Landers to Beat Kia Tigers

The SSG Landers lost some steam recently, but the tough schedule has been the main reason for their slump. The upcoming series against the struggling Kia Tigers represents an excellent opportunity to get back on track.

I expect strong performances from the Landers, starting from the opening game on Tuesday. The two sides are starting comparable pitchers, but the favorite has a better offense and a more reliable bullpen.

That’s enough for me to back the SSG Landers in my KBO predictions for June 15.

Doosan Bears to Beat Samsung Lions

I honestly don’t know what to think about this one; it looks as close as possible. Both sides have comparable stats for the season and they are sending pitchers that have performed on a similar level.

There’s no obvious favorite here and based on the shaky performers of both starters in 2021 up to this point, this could be a massacre.

My gut instinct tells me that Doosan’s offense could carry this game and the better H2H record this season is another reason to back the Bears.
