KBO Predictions and Analysis – Thursday, August 26 (2021)
We had four KBO games in the previous round, and it looks like the weather will be finally clear in the upcoming days! The forecasts for Thursday are perfect, so we should have five regular fixtures and the postponed clash from Wednesday too.
In my KBO predictions for August 26, I cover five games with analysis and team news. Here’s the complete list of fixtures I’ve included.
- Hanwha Eales vs. Kiwoom Heroes
- Lotte Giants vs. Kia Tigers
- Doosan Bears vs. NC Dinos
- SSG Landers vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- Samsung Lions vs. LG Twins
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The Kiwoom Heroes never learn, do they? The team had a great chance to get closer to the top of the league in South Korean baseball by winning against the worst squad in the country.
The Heroes were soundly beaten instead, and the distance was extended by the leaders. The good news for Kiwoom is that the team faces Hanwha Eagles once again on Thursday, and the underdog is sending an even worse pitcher right from the start.
Jang Si-hwan has nine defeats in the same number of games so far, and his stats are abysmal. The Heroes should be able to score plenty of runs, and their own starting pitcher is much better.
Honestly, it would be shocking if the Eagles are competitive in this clash, but you never know with the Heroes. I still expect them to win based on everything we know.
Lotte Giants to Beat Kia Tigers
The previous game between the Giants and the Tigers on Wednesday was pretty wild. Both teams managed to score plenty of runs, but Kia’s offense was stronger, and the team won by 11-6. The second clash should be quiet in comparison.
Dan Straily is next in Lotte’s rotation, and despite some shaky moments in 2021, he remains a quality pitcher. The same can be said for Lee Lee-eui, who should get the nod for the Tigers.
It’s hard to separate the two teams, but I trust Straily slightly more, so I’m picking the Giants here.
NC Dinos to Beat Doosan Bears
Wednesday’s match between these two was postponed because of rain, and we now have two encounters on the same day to make up for that. I will only cover the first one in my KBO predictions.
The announced starting pitchers and lineups are similar to what they were for the previous round. I picked the NC Dinos in my KBO predictions then, and I prefer to stick to my initial assessment.
Both sides are sending strong pitchers, but the Dinos have been better recently, and that’s enough for me.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat SSG Landers
I expected a win for KT Wiz Suwon in the previous clash of this series, and they delivered with ease. The KBO leaders are certainly close to their best, and they will be eager to keep their position by the end of the regular season.
I feel optimistic about their chances on Thursday for a couple of reasons. The first one is that their offense is working well recently, and the second is Um Sang-back. The youngster did well in both of his games after the Olympics break, so he should be able to contain the opposition.
As for the Landers, they have struggled recently, and it’s Lee Tae-yang’s turn in the rotation. The pitcher was destroyed by KT Wiz last time around, and the overall record of the team against the leaders is 2-6 in 2021.
The most sensible option is to back KT Wiz Suwon, and that’s my final decision.
Samsung Lions to Beat LG Twins
In my KBO predictions for the previous round, I described Wednesday’s encounter between these two as the closest to call. My thoughts were confirmed because the game ended in a close draw.
David Buchanan should be available to start for the Lions, and he can make sure that they have the upper hand this time around. The American might be the best pitcher in the league, while the Twins are forced to send a guy with mediocre stats.
We know that LG struggles when some of the weaker starting pitchers are next in the rotation because the offense is not strong enough to carry the team. The Lions should be able to win this one, and this is my final selection.
