KBO Predictions and Analysis – Thursday, August 19 (2021)
We had a full round of games in South Korean baseball on Wednesday, and I must admit that some of the results surprised me. The losing teams will have the chance to bounce back immediately against the same opponents.
The weather forecasts suggest that three games are under threat of being canceled because of rain, but most of them should eventually proceed as expected.
That’s why I cover all of the following five fixtures in my KBO predictions for Thursday, August 19. If you want to follow them with wagers, you should check our KBO betting guide for useful tips for gambling on South Korean baseball.
- Kia Tigers vs. Doosan Bears
- LG Twins vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- NC Dinos vs. SSG Landers
- Samsung Lions vs. Hanwha Eagles
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. Lotte Giants
Doosan Bears to Beat Kia Tigers
The Doosan Bears were disappointing on Wednesday once again, and the gap to the KBO playoff positions is getting wider. It looks like one of the favorites before the campaign might be eliminated after the regular season.
I still believe that Doosan’s starting pitcher gives them enough of an advantage in Thursday’s clash against the Tigers, though. With seven wins and one defeat on excellent stats in 2021, Choi Won-joon has been the team’s top performer.
He should be able to keep the opposition quiet, and that’s enough for me to pick the Bears in my KBO predictions for August 19.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat LG Twins
I picked KT Wiz in the second clash against LG, and my main argument was that the Twins rarely win against good teams when they don’t have a clear advantage in the starting pitchers. We saw a good example of that when Suwon crushed them by 8-1.
The situation is similar when it comes to Thursday’s clash. KT Wiz is expected to send a decent starter, while the Twins will use one of their struggling players in this position.
Suwon’s offense is better too, so I believe another win for the squad is the most logical choice.
NC Dinos to Beat SSG Landers
The SSG Landers surprised a lot of people on Wednesday, beating the reigning champions rather comfortably.
Their confidence will be high for the next game, but there’s one big problem. It’s Sam Gaviglio’s turn in the rotation, and he’s been abysmal up to this point.
The American was crushed in both of his two starts since arriving in South Korean baseball, so facing a strong offensive team like the Dinos is going to be a tough challenge.
The champions have the better starter and all the tools to punish the opposition, so I prefer backing them in my KBO predictions for Thursday.
Samsung Lions to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The Samsung Lions did a good job to beat the Hanwha Eagles on Wednesday, and I expect something similar in the next round of KBO action.
David Buchanan will start for the favorites, and he’s been one of the top pitchers in the entire league. Keeping the worst team in the country quiet shouldn’t be a problem for the American, and the weather is the main danger for the Lions.
We might see rain on Thursday, so this game could be postponed. If it does go through, a victory for the Lions is the most logical outcome.
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat Lotte Giants
Just when you think that the Kiwoom Heroes have found some consistency, the team fails to score even a single run in two consecutive games against the ninth-placed Lotte Giants.
Kiwoom has another shot at beating the Giants, and I’m not sure what to expect this time around. The two starting pitchers are on a similar level, so the offenses should decide this one.
The Heroes have struggled this week, but Lotte is the team with the least runs scored over the course of the entire campaign. That’s why I’m backing Kiwoom here, but I’m not too confident in the team.
