KBO Predictions and Analysis – Thursday, August 12 (2021)
The previous round of action in the elite South Korean baseball division brought us a lot of drama on the field. The good news is that the weather was fine, and the expectations are that it will be the same on Thursday, so we should have a full round.
I share my KBO predictions with analysis for all games scheduled for August 12. Here’s a complete list of the fixtures I cover here.
- Hanwha Eales vs. Kia Tigers
- KT Wiz Suwon vs. Kiwoom Heroes
- Lotte Giants vs. NC Dinos
- Doosan Bears vs. Samsung Lions
- SSG Landers vs. LG Twins
Hanwha Eagles to Beat Kia Tigers
It looked like the Kia Tigers won the second clash before the start of the last inning on Tuesday, but the Eagles scored six runs to at least earn a tie.
The team’s confidence should be off the charts after such a dramatic comeback, and there’s another reason to be optimistic. Kim Min-woo is expected to start the game, and the pitcher has been great so far, winning nine games in 2021.
He should be able to contain the Tigers that are most likely to start Kim Yu-sin. The youngster has only one win in seven attempts so far, and it’s hard to expect a solid performance.
I see more reasons to back the Eagles, so this is my opening prediction.
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat KT Wiz Suwon
KT Wiz Suwon looks like a shadow of the team that dominated the KBO before the Olympics break. The side lost twice against the Kiwoom Heroes, and it’s hard to find major positives.
The defense has been somewhat decent, but the offense has failed to deliver nearly enough runs for KT Wiz to stay competitive.
The Heroes certainly have looked more capable of scoring this week, so I prefer them in my KBO predictions for August 12.
Lotte Giants to Beat NC Dinos
The Lotte Giants earned a second consecutive victory, and the NC Dinos are now outside of the KBO playoff spots as a result. The champions are in a hole, and even if they have more than enough games to change their fortunes, they look desperate right now.
The team lacks confidence, and the top players need to step up. I’m not sure this will happen on Thursday, though.
The Giants have the momentum, and they will face one of NC’s shaky pitchers. Unless the offense of the Dinos delivers an exceptional performance, this game could end up with another victory for Lotte.
Samsung Lions to Beat Doosan Bears
The second clash between the Lions and the Bears was a wild shootout, but Doosan came out on top. The team’s offense saved the day, and something similar will have to happen in the next encounter if the Bears are about to win again.
They are expected to send a pitcher with three defeats from three starts, while the Lions will use one of their best players in this position.
Baek Jung-hyun has eight wins so far in 2021 on excellent stats. He can keep the Bears quiet for the most part, while Samsung’s offense can get the job done in the meantime.
I believe that the Lions should have the upper hand in this clash.
LG Twins to Beat SSG Landers
The LG Twins had another strong display on Wednesday, and it was a complete showing this time around. The defense held the Landers for most of the clash, while the offense punished every error for a final score of 12-5.
They are starting one of their less reliable pitchers, but they still have the best bullpen in the league.
At the same time, the Landers will use Sam Gaviglio, who was terrible in his only start so far and has allowed 12 runs in 10.5 innings. Unless the American improves dramatically, the Landers should lose this one.
