KBO Predictions and Analysis – Saturday, May 8 (2021)
Four of the five KBO games in the previous round of South Korean baseball were postponed because of the bad weather and are expected to take place on Saturday instead.
This means the teams will play twice if the conditions allow it. I share my KBO predictions only for the early clashes because the later ones will certainly be affected by what happens in the day’s opening games.
With that in mind, here’s a list of all fixtures covered in my KBO predictions for Saturday, May 8.
- Hanwha Eagles vs. LG Twins
- Lotte Giants vs. Samsung Lions
- NC Dinos vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- Doosan Bears vs. Kia Tigers
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. SSG Landers
LG Twins to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The schedule will be hectic on Saturday, and the teams will have to find a way to spread their resources properly. I think that should favor squads who have a strong defense, and the Twins are among the best in the league in that area.
The team has a bunch of good starters and a reliable bullpen. Jeong Chan-Heon is expected to get the nod in the first clash of the day, and he has a 1.64 ERA in three starts so far, winning two of them.
He should provide a strong performance once again, and I don’t think that the Eagles will score many runs. At the same time, LG’s offense has improved lately, so they can get the job done.
Samsung Lions to Beat Lotte Giants
The first game between these two was the only one that came through in the previous round. The Lions achieved a comfortable victory, and it looks like they should do the same on Saturday.
Lotte doesn’t have the means to put up a fight against the leaders right now, so I prefer to back the Lions in my KBO predictions for May 8.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat NC Dinos
KT Wiz Suwon is the better side at the moment and expected to send a significantly better starting pitcher than the Dinos on Saturday. The reigning champions have a strong offense that could explore in any given game, but they have been very inconsistent so far.
Unless the offense somehow destroys KT Wiz, I expect the Dinos to lose this clash and continue suffering on the defensive end.
Doosan Bears to Beat Kia Tigers
I’ve picked the Doosan Bears to win the opening game, and I still prefer them. The team has a better offense than the Tigers and will be able to use the services of Choi Won-Joon.
The pitcher has three victories in the same number of starts, limiting most opponents so far. He can keep Kia’s offense quiet, while the Tigers are expected to send Im Gi-Yeong on the field.
The guy has been struggling badly this season, losing both of his games and posting a 9.40 ERA. The difference between the starting pitchers is just way too big, and the Bears have the players to punish the opposition badly.
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat SSG Landers
The early clash between the Heroes and the Landers might be postponed again because of the weather conditions. The forecasts suggest that there will be strong wind, but we don’t know what’s going to happen yet.
In case the game goes through, I believe that the Heroes can win. They have the weaker starting pitcher, but not by far, and their recent form has been excellent.
The offense is flying, and the team just beat a strong opponent like KT Wiz Suwon twice in a row. The Heroes are trying to climb the rankings, and I believe another victory is on the way.
