KBO Predictions and Analysis – Saturday, May 1 (2021)

| April 30, 2021 10:16 am PDT

Beginning on Saturday, the weekend will bring us plenty of action in South Korean baseball. There’s a full round of fixtures on the schedule, and I cover them all in my KBO predictions for May 1.

The projected outcomes you’ll find in this post are based on the expected starting lineups and my analysis of all matchups.

Here are all the encounters included in my KBO predictions for Saturday.

  • Hanwha Eagles vs. Lotte Giants
  • Kia Tigers vs. KT Wiz Suwon
  • LG Twins vs. Samsung Lions
  • SSG Landers vs. Doosan Bears
  • Kiwoom Heroes vs. NC Dinos

Hanwha Eagles to Beat Lotte Giants

The Hanwha Eagles showed a lot of character to win the first clash against Lotte after going 5-0 down early on. The underdog fought back to turn it around and scored eleven runs against the Giants, which was a strong statement.

The Eagles have the psychological advantage for the second game on Saturday, and they also have the better starting pitcher. Nick Kingham has two wins already in 2021 and respectable stats, so he should deliver another good performance.

The Giants are expected to start Lee Seung-Heon, who’s not a bad player, but the lack of experience has been an issue so far. I don’t think he could contain the Eagles if they play with the same energy, so I prefer to back Hanwha in my KBO predictions for Saturday.

KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Kia Tigers

The opening clash between the Tigers and KT Wiz was a complete disaster for Kia. The team allowed 15 runs, with both the starting pitcher and bullpen getting destroyed by the opponents.

It’s Aaron Brooks next in the rotation, and he should be able to steady the ship, but KT Wiz Suwon owns the most prolific offense in the country. I simply don’t see how the Tigers can stop the opposition in this one.

Their only path to victory would be to score a lot of runs of their own, and there is hope if you consider the shaky performances of Bae Je-Seong up to this point. I still think that KT Wiz Suwon should win, though, and I’m backing the team for another victory.

Samsung Lions to Beat LG Twins

We saw that the LG Twins are simply abysmal when their defense is not working in the opening clash against the Lions. Samsung wasn’t troubled at all and won by 4-0.

I believe that the Lions could take the second game too.

Both sides are expected to send pitchers who have posted an ERA higher than 6 so far in the campaign, but Samsung has more ways to punish the opposition.

The Twins simply don’t score enough runs, and that should be their main issue on Saturday once again.

SSG Landers to Beat Doosan Bears

The Doosan Bears won the opening game rather comfortably thanks to a strong performance by their starting pitcher and decent production from the offense.

Looking at the latest team news, I think the roles will be reversed in the second game. The Landers will be able to rely on Moon Seung-Won, who’s been solid this season, while the Bears are sending Lee Young-Ha, who has three defeats already and abysmal stats.

SSG’s ability to bounce back after losing is another important factor, and I believe that the Langers can grab the victory in game two on Saturday.

NC Dinos to Beat Kiwoom Heroes

The NC Dinos have been so inconsistent since the start of the season that it’s starting to get scary for their title ambitions. The team lost game one against a modest opponent like the struggling Heroes and currently occupies the seventh position in the KBO table.

On the bright side, the Dinos should be starting Wes Parson on Saturday, and the American has been a rock so far. He can provide much-needed stability, while the offense will face a pitcher with two defeats who’s been leaking runs left and right.

That’s enough for me to go for the Dinos, but I would still be careful based on NC’s problems in the past week or so.
