KBO Predictions and Analysis – Saturday, August 21 (2021)
After the favorable conditions allowed all five games on Friday to proceed, as usual, it looks like every single clash on Saturday is questionable right now. The weather reports suggest that it will rain all across South Korea.
The numbers show anywhere between 29% and 75% chance of rain for the different locations that are supposed to host games. Some of them may go through, so I share my KBO predictions for all fixtures.
- Hanwha Eales vs. Doosan Bears
- KT Wiz Suwon vs. Lotte Giants
- SSG Landers vs. Samsung Lions
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. Kia Tigers
- LG Twins vs. NC Dinos
Doosan Bears to Beat Hanwha Eagles
I expected a win for the Bears on Friday, and they delivered with ease. The team was great, both offensively and defensively. I believe we will see something similar on Saturday.
Hanwha is expected to send Ryan Carpenter, who has been solid, but Doosan’s Walker Lockett is on another level. The guy has seven wins already and an excellent ERA of 2.75.
The American already destroyed the Eagles once this season, and he has one of the strongest offensive squads behind his back too. That’s enough for me to back the Doosan Bears in my KBO predictions for Saturday.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Lotte Giants
I thought that the Lotte Giants could surprise KT Wiz Suwon in game one, and the underdog stood strong before narrowly losing the clash.
It was a good performance, but I’m afraid that the Giants won’t be able to repeat it. Their offense will face Ko Young-pyo, who has been decent this year, which will be a problem.
At the same time, Lotte is expected to start Seo Jun-won, who has been struggling big time. KT Wiz has all the means to punish him, and Suwon’s bullpen is also stronger. It should be a rather comfortable victory for the KBO leaders.
SSG Landers to Beat Samsung Lions
The Samsung Lions barely beat the SSG Landers on Friday, mostly thanks to their stellar defense. The roles could very well be reversed in the next game if we judge by the team news.
The Landers will be able to rely on Wilmer Font, who’s been strong this campaign and already had a great performance against the same opponent.
He should be able to contain the Lions for most of the game, and I’m not sure if Samsung’s pick can do the same. It’s Choi Chae-heung’s turn, and he has been shaky this year. The Landers already beat him once, and I won’t be shocked if they do it again.
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat Kia Tigers
The Kiwoom Heroes once again let me down in the previous round after a lackluster performance. It’s really hard to back this team with all the inconsistencies shown in 2021, but there is one player on the squad I certainly trust.
He can contain any opponent in the league, and that’s exactly what happened the last time Jokisch met the Tigers.
If you add Kia’s inconsistent starter, it’s easy to see why the Heroes are my favorite in the upcoming game.
LG Twins to Beat NC Dinos
My strategy to go against the Twins when they don’t have a clear advantage in the starting pitchers worked well on Friday when the team was crushed by the NC Dinos.
It’s time to reverse the roles and back the team on Saturday because LG’s guy is much better than the opposing pitcher.
Casey Kelly has been excellent in 2021, and you can always rely on him to keep the batters quiet. You can’t say the same for NC’s pitcher. The Twins also have the stronger bullpen, so I believe they can get the job done.
