KBO Predictions and Analysis – Saturday, April 24 (2021)

| April 23, 2021 10:06 am PDT

This week has brought us plenty of exciting games in South Korean baseball, and we still have two full rounds to go. The first one will take place on Saturday, and I share my KBO predictions for all five fixtures.

These predictions are based on the projected starting lineups and the form of all teams in the country. Here’s the full list of games that are included in my KBO predictions for April 24.

  • LG Twins vs. Hanwha Eagles
  • Lotte Giants vs. KT Wiz Suwon
  • NC Dinos vs. Doosan Bears
  • SSG Landers vs. Kiwoom Heroes
  • Samsung Lions vs. Kia Tigers

LG Twins to Beat Hanwha Eagles

I picked the LG Twins to win the opening game of the series, and the team delivered exactly the type of performance I expected – lackluster offense but formidable defense.

It seems like this has been the only way for the Twins to win since the start of the season, which could be a problem in the second clash. Lee Min-Ho is next in the rotation, and he was demolished in his only start so far, allowing eight hits and six runs in just over three innings played.

And yet, the youngster had similar moments in his rookie season last year and still ended up with a respectable 3.69 ERA. He was also punished by one of the best offensive teams in the league, Doosan Bears.

I expect much better against the Eagles, and Hanwha’s choice for a start is shaky, too, so I will back the Twins.

KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Lotte Giants

The Lotte Giants exploded offensively on Friday to beat KT Wiz Suwon, and the team’s confidence certainly is high. The big question is if they can keep scoring with the same tempo because the opposition will be dangerous.

Both sides will bring in decent starting pitchers for the second clash on Sunday, so the game should be close.

To be honest, I’m torn. The Giants have the momentum, while KT Wiz has been the better team since the start of the season. That last part is enough for me to back Suwon in my KBO predictions for Saturday, but the game might go the other way, too.

Doosan Bears to Beat NC Dinos

The Doosan Bears looked strong in every aspect of the game, beating the reigning champions by 5-1 in the first clash. Another victory would be enough to go over the Dinos in the rankings, and that should be all the motivation the Bears need.
Another factor in Doosan’s favor is the potential start of Ariel Miranda, who was almost flawless in his opening couple of games in the KBO.

He should keep the opposition relatively quiet, and I don’t think you could expect the same from Lee Jae-Hak, who should get the nod for the NC Dinos. He has been sloppy so far, and the powerful Bears offense could punish him big time.

SSG Landers to Beat Kiwoom Heroes

I’m not sure I can trust the Heroes nowadays. Their offense has been a disaster, and they can’t keep their opponents quiet either. The Landers had a relatively easy victory in the opening clash of the series on Friday, and they might do the same in the next game.

Both teams are sending pitchers who have been mediocre so far, and I think this favors the Landers. LG’s offense has looked better in the past two or three games, so they should be able to find some runs on Saturday as well.

Samsung Lions to Beat Kia Tigers

The Samsung Lions were worse than I expected in the previous KBO round, and the Tigers took full advantage, winning the first clash by 4-1.

The good news for the Lions is that one of their best starters, Won Tae-In, will be available next. He has a 1.00 ERA after three games so far and against decent opponents, too.

The youngster should be able to keep the Tigers at bay for the first five or six innings, so I’m going for the Samsung Lions in the last of my KBO predictions for April 24.
