KBO Predictions and Analysis – Friday, May 7 (2021)
I thought that Wednesday’s round of the top South Korean baseball division was wild, but the teams went even further on the next day. It seems like even elite KBO pitchers suddenly have forgotten how to throw a ball if we judge by the results.
It’s interesting to see if the trend continues when all squads return on Friday, and I share my KBO predictions below. I’ve included info about the starting lineups and the form of each team.
Here’s a complete list of the games included in my KBO predictions for May 7.
- Hanwha Eagles vs. LG Twins
- Lotte Giants vs. Samsung Lions
- NC Dinos vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- Doosan Bears vs. Kia Tigers
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. SSG Landers
Hanwha Eagles to Beat LG Twins
Everyone thought Hanwha would be the punching bag of the league this season, but the Eagles have been competitive in most of their games. The team is still ninth in the standings with a negative record, but a few wins can change that.
I certainly believe that the next game is winnable for the side.
Im Chan-Kyu has struggled massively in his two starts in 2021, conceding 12 runs in just over 4 innings. One of those games was against the Eagles, who punished him heavily.
I won’t be shocked to see something similar on Friday, so I’m backing the Eagles in my KBO predictions.
Samsung Lions to Beat Lotte Giants
I don’t think anyone would be surprised by this one. The Lions are leading the league, and they won eight of the last ten games. The team is flying right now; starting a guy with four wins and a 1.16 ERA is another reason to believe that another victory is on the way.
The Giants are struggling badly at this moment, and while their offense delivered big time in the previous round, the team’s way too inconsistent. I don’t see how they could trouble the best squad in the KBO in the upcoming clash.
NC Dinos to Beat KT Wiz Suwon
Both the NC Dinos and KT Wiz Suwon had a bad week as a whole, but there’s enough time to turn it around. The next game could be crucial, and both sides will be eager to win it.
On paper, KT Wiz Suwon is sending the stronger starting pitcher and should have the advantage. And yet, it feels like the reigning champions have been underperforming so far, and they have a lot of room for improvement.
The squad looked very strong in the previous round against the Landers, which might serve as a turning point. I feel this one could go either way, but I prefer the Dinos.
Doosan Bears to Beat Kia Tigers
The Bears and the Tigers have an identical record up to this point of the KBO season, but the advanced stats suggest that Doosan is the better team in pretty much every area.
The pitcher is next in the rotation, and he has three victories from three starts so far. Kia’s choice for a starter is strong too, but I don’t trust the bullpen, and the Bears have what it takes to punish every mistake.
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat SSG Landers
The Kiwoom Heroes have hit top form after a bad period in April and have looked very strong recently. Their offense is hot, and that might be a problem for the Landers. SSG’s starter for Friday has been shaky in his previous appearances, so the opposition might score too many runs.
On top of that, Heroes will send one of their solid starting pitchers in Choi Won-Tae. He had one bad game KT Wiz, but the rest of his performance so far have been stellar.
If you add to that the flying offense of the Heroes, backing them looks like the smart choice on Friday.
