KBO Predictions and Analysis – Friday, May 28 (2021)
Just when you think you know the South Korean baseball league well, the teams find ways to surprise you again. I must admit that some of the results this week make little sense to me, but a new round is coming on Friday, and it can tell us a lot whether the good performance of some squads was a fluke.
I share my thoughts on all fixtures in my KBO predictions for May 28; here’s a full list of the games included.
- KT Wiz Suwon vs. Kia Tigers
- NC Dinos vs. Lotte Giants
- Doosan Bears vs. Samsung Lions
- SSG Landers vs. Hanwha Eagles
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. LG Twins
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Kia Tigers
The Kia Tigers looked like the worst team in the league for a couple of weeks, but this one has been different. The team beat the high-flying Kiwoom Heroes twice, and I must admit I didn’t see it coming.
Another strong opponent is next in line, and I’m still not convinced that the Tigers can handle the pressure. KT Wiz is one of the best teams in South Korea and has the upper hand in pretty much all statistical categories.
I believe that the favorite has more means to punish the opposition, so I prefer picking KT Wiz for my KBO predictions for Friday.
NC Dinos to Beat Lotte Giants
The Lotte Giants took the place of the Kia Tigers as the punching bag of the KBO recently. They have lost four games in a row, and their defense has been all over the place.
It’s hard to expect something else on Friday if we look at the team news. Park Se-Woong is expected to get the nod, and he’s been shaky so far.
On the bright side for the Giants, the Dinos are expected to use Song Myung-Gi, who has struggled too. I still prefer the reigning champions because of their superior bullpen and offense, but I’m not 100% convinced they will win.
Samsung Lions to Beat Doosan Bears
Both the Bears and the Lions have been solid so far in the league, and they are sending some of their best pitchers for the start of this clash.
Samsung’s choice is David Buchanan, who has five wins and a 2.10 ERA so far in 2021, while Choi Won-Joon will begin for the Bears. He is unbeaten after four starts, but his stats are slightly worse.
I’m torn about this one because the Lions have the slightly better pitcher, but the Bears are stronger offensively. Still, I trust Buchanan, and I believe that he can lead his team to a victory.
SSG Landers to Beat Hanwha Eagles
Most people probably expect an easy win for the Landers after the squad’s strong performance against KT Wiz Suwon. The KBO leaders are certainly very tough and should beat a bottom-half opponent like the Eagles, but Hanwha shouldn’t be underestimated.
The team is expected to start Ryan Carpenter, who’s been excellent so far in the season, and only the fact the SSG will use one of its own top starters makes up for that.
I’m going for the favorite in this one, but it should be a tight game, and a surprise is not impossible by any means.
LG Twins to Beat Kiwoom Heroes
The Kiwoom Heroes looked invincible for two weeks in a row, but their last two performances were forgetful. The team was beaten by the Kia Tigers twice and looked like the last side in the standings earlier in the season.
I’m not sure it would get much better on Friday when the Heroes face the in-form Twins.
I think that LG has the stronger bullpen, and the offense has been better recently, so I’m picking the Twins in my KBO predictions for May 28.
