KBO Predictions and Analysis – Friday, May 14 (2021)
My prediction that the pitchers would shine in the previous round of South Korean baseball was only partially true. We had a few quiet games, but others went completely crazy and saw a bunch of runs.
It’s interesting to see in what direction the league will go when the new series starts on Friday, and I share my KBO predictions for May 14. Here’s a full list of the games I cover.
- Hanwha Eagles vs. Kiwoom Heroes
- KT Wiz Suwon vs. Lotte Giants
- Doosan Bears vs. SSG Landers
- Samsung Lions vs. LG Twins
- Kia Tigers vs. NC Dinos
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The Kiwoom Heroes were at the bottom of the KBO standings just two weeks ago, but they have found another level in their performance since. The team has been gritty and willing to fight in every single game, which has resulted in six wins in the past ten fixtures, despite the tough schedule.
The last one came in the previous round against the Doosan Bears, and the dramatic 14-13 victory against such a strong opponent certainly boosted the squad’s confidence.
The Heroes have an excellent chance to continue their good run against one of the worst teams in the country. The Eagles are below average in every area, and they are expected to start the weaker pitcher.
They also have the worse bullpen and offense, so I prefer backing the Heroes in my KBO predictions for Friday.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Lotte Giants
I felt tempted simply to back KT Wiz Suwon in this one, without even checking the team news. The side is much better right now, while the Lotte Giants have recently been the punching bag of the KBO.
I did explore the projected lineups after all, and they didn’t change my mind.
The Giants are sending a guy with an ERA of over 7, and while Suwon’s starting pitcher is not much better, KT Wiz has the stronger offense and all the means to punish the opposition.
Doosan Bears to Beat SSG Landers
I must admit that the SSG Landers have been one of the toughest teams to evaluate from a KBO gambling perspective this year. The side looks shaky way too often but somehow wins many games and is currently second in the standings after more than 30 rounds.
It feels like getting their games right is close to impossible, but I’m going to keep trying anyway. For the next one, the Landers are facing one of the solid sides in the league.
The Doosan Bears have an offense that can explode at any given moment and are expected to start the better pitcher on Friday. That’s enough for me to back them in the series opener, but I urge you to be careful if you decide to follow me.
Samsung Lions to Beat LG Twins
On paper, this should be one of the toughest games to predict in South Korean baseball on Friday. Both the Lions and the Twins are sending exceptional pitchers right from the start, and they should be stellar from a defensive standpoint.
The KBO leaders are the more complex side, and they have more weapons at their disposal, so I prefer backing them in my KBO predictions for May 14.
NC Dinos to Beat Kia Tigers
The NC Dinos just beat the Eagles three times in a row, and I feel this is an excellent opportunity to start a winning run. The reigning KBO champions face the Kia Tigers next, and they have the upper hand when it comes to the starting pitchers.
Wes Parson should get the nod for the Dinos, and despite some shaky moments, the American has been respected as a whole.
I can’t say the same for Kia’s Im Gi-Yeong, who was demolished in both of his starts in 2021. The pitcher is yet to register a victory, and his stats show an 8.22 ERA. I don’t think he can do much against the Dinos, and I expect a win for the champs.
