KBO Predictions and Analysis – Friday, June 18 (2021)
It’s time for new series to start in South Korean baseball, and some have the potential to be very exciting. The battle for the playoffs is as tight as ever, and all the teams know that very well.
Some of the favorites are struggling to cope with the pressure, and I’m curious to see if they can start a winning run to salvage the season.
You can find out if that’s the case in my KBO predictions for Friday, June 18. The weather should be fine, so the following fixtures are expected to take place.
- Kia Tigers vs. LG Twins
- Doosan Bears vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- SSG Landers vs. Hanwha Eagles
- Samsung Lions vs. Lotte Giants
- Kiwoom Heroes vs. NC Dinos
LG Twins to Beat Kia Tigers
This is arguably the easiest of my KBO predictions for Friday based on the team news and both sides’ recent form. The LG Twins are sending a veteran pitcher who did well in his two starts so far, and it’s curious to note that one of them was against the Tigers.
Kia’s offense failed to score a single run in this clash, and it’s hard to expect much of a difference. On top of that, the team’s starter has an 8.42 ERA and four defeats in his four starts so far.
The Twins should use this opportunity to start the series with a victory, and I firmly believe they have the upper hand here.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Doosan Bears
From the easiest match to predict, we jump straight into the toughest. KT Wiz Suwon have been solid recently and found their way to the top of the KBO table. The offense has been their main weapon, but they have several excellent pitchers too.
Both Ariel Miranda and Bae Je-Seong have been solid this season, winning five of their eight starts. However, I don’t think any of them is notably better than the other, and the same can be said about the offenses.
And yet, KT Wiz already beat the Bears four teams and lost only once in 2021, so I prefer Suwon.
SSG Landers to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The SSG Landers enter the clash against the Hanwha Eagles as clear favorites. They have a much stronger offense, a reliable bullpen, and are expected to start a stronger pitcher on Friday.
Wilmer Font has three victories so far this season and only one defeat. The problem is that this loss came against the Eagles when he allowed four runs in only two innings.
And yet, this was Font’s KBO debut, and he’s come a long way since then. I expect much better on Friday, and Hanwha’s starter has lost all of his five starts.
It’s hard to see how the Eagles could trouble the opposition, so I’m picking the Landers here.
Samsung Lions to Beat Lotte Giants
That’s another game that looks very one-sided. However, the Samsung Lions have been significantly better, and everything is on their side for the upcoming clash against the Giants.
Won Tae-In has eight victories already and great stats up to this point of the season. He already beat the Giants twice, so another win is on the cards.
Kiwoom Heroes to Beat NC Dinos
On paper, you would expect the NC Dinos to enter this encounter as the favorites. They are stronger offensively, and Kiwoom’s starting pitcher has a 2-6 record in his games this season.
And yet, the numbers are misleading in this case. Ahn Woo-Jin has decent stats, and the offense let him down more than once.
On top of that, the Heroes already beat the Dinos five times and completely destroyed Song Myung-Gi last time around. The pitcher allowed nine runs in only five innings at the end of May.
I see more than enough reason to back the Heroes here, and this might be their best chance to win a game from the series.
