KBO Predictions and Analysis – Friday, April 23 (2021)
Do you want proof of how close the top South Korean baseball league has been this week? All teams right now have one win and one defeat in their last two encounters.
You would struggle to find something similar in other sporting competitions, that’s for sure!
It also makes my KBO predictions hard, but I have no intention to give up, and I’m about to cover the next round that’s scheduled for Friday.
Here are all games included in my KBO predictions for April 23.
- LG Twins vs. Hanwha Eagles
- Lotte Giants vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- NC Dinos vs. Doosan Bears
- SSG Landers vs. Kiwoom Heroes
- Samsung Lions vs. Kia Tigers
LG Twins to Beat Hanwha Eagles
The LG Twins certainly lost a lot of their momentum after four defeats in the last five games. The team is still second in the standings because of the strong start earlier in the season, but it’s time to start pitching well again, or that’s bound to change.
The good news is that the Twins face the Eagles next, and Andrew Suarez will be their starting pitcher. He should be able to contain a team like Hanwha, while LG’s offense can do the damage against Kim Beom-Su, who lost both of his games in the league so far.
It looks like the Twins can bounce back in this one, and that’s what I’m going for.
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Lotte Giants
KT Wiz Suwon just beat the reigning champions NC Dinos twice in three games, showing impressive form on both defense and offense. That was enough for the team to climb to the top of the table and the confidence of the squad is now off the charts.
KT Wiz should be able to continue the good streak against the Lotte Giants, who are expected to start Enderson Franco. The new signing was awful in his first start, and that’s going to be a problem against the prolific offense of Suwon.
The only hope for the Giants is that the opposition’s choice for a starting pitcher is not at his best right now either. And yet, I prefer to back KT Wiz Suwon in my KBO predictions for Friday.
Doosan Bears to Beat NC Dinos
Both the Dinos and the Bears have underperformed to an extent up to this point of the campaign. And yet, the teams showed glimpses of their potential in certain matches and will be confident that they will be at the top of the KBO table sooner rather than later.
Still, the Dinos struggled badly twice against KT Wiz, so the Bears have been more consistent this week. They will also have the extra motivation of facing the squad that beat them in the Korean Series last season.
This is enough for me to back them, but I won’t be shocked if the reigning champions show up big time, either.
SSG Landers to Beat Kiwoom Heroes
The Kiwoom Heroes finally won a game in the KBO to break their losing streak, and that should boost the team’s morale. The problem is that the next game will be very rough.
The SSG Landers have started the season well and currently have the same record as the KBO leaders KT Wiz Suwon. On top of that, the Heroes have the much worse starting pitcher for game one on Friday.
It looks tough for Kiwoom, and I don’t think that the team can win this clash.
Samsung Lions to Beat Kia Tigers
Both the Samsung Lions and the Kia Tigers have been solid since the start of the season. It’s hard to pick any of the teams based on form alone, but the projected starting lineups certainly make it easier.
It’s Baek Jung-Hyun’s turn in Samsung’s rotation, and he already has two wins this season, on a 2.40 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. In comparison. Kia’s choice Daniel Mengden has allowed 9 runs in 16 innings so far, and I simply don’t trust him.
That’s why I’m going for the Lions here, and they look like the more balanced team for Friday.
