KBO Predictions and Analysis – Friday, September 24 (2021)
Some of the elite South Korean baseball teams did slow down in the previous round, but not all of them! We still saw some wild games and I think there are more to come on Friday when the teams return to meet the same opponents once again.
There will be two games between the Lotte Giants and the SSG Landers on September 24. I cover only the early one in my KBO predictions because we don’t have any team news for the second clash.
Here’s a full list of the fixtures I’ve included below.
- Hanwha Eagles vs. KT Wiz Suwon
- Lotte Giants vs. SSG Landers
- NC Dinos vs. Kiwoom Heroes
- Doosan Bears vs. Kia Tigers
- Samsung Lions vs. LG Twins
KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Hanwha Eagles
I predicted a win for Suwon in the opening match and the league leaders delivered. It was a tight clash with limited opportunities and I expect something similar on Friday.
Odrisamer Despaigne returns for KT Wiz and he’s been amazing this season. A quick look at his record against the Eagles shows three victories from the same number of starts. The guy knows how to keep this team quiet and I expect more of the same on Friday.
The Eagles will be able to rely on Nick Kingham, so they have a strong starter of their own. However, KT Wiz has the upper hand in every other aspect and that’s enough for me to back the league leaders in my KBO predictions for September 24.
SSG Landers to Beat Lotte Giants
The previous game between these two was a joy to watch and the Landers barely won by 9-8. That should boost the team’s confidence for the next two encounters that are both on Friday.
Dan Straily (Giants) and Lee Tae-yang (Landers) are going to start the early clash. They both had their ups and downs this season, so it’s hard to know what to expect. Furthermore, both have lost against Friday’s opponent once already.
It feels like this one could be wild and I think SSG’s momentum from the dramatic victory in the previous round could be enough for another win early on Friday.
NC Dinos to Beat Kiwoom Heroes
I expected a win from the Kiwoom Heroes because the team had the stronger starter and I wasn’t disappointed.
Drew Rucinski can certainly provide a solid platform and we know that NC’s offense can score.
I don’t think that Choi Won-tae can stop the Dinos in this one, so a win for the KBO title holders makes the most sense. Of course, you should always be careful when the Heroes are playing because they are arguably the most unpredictable team in the country.
Doosan Bears to Beat Kia Tigers
Can the Doosan Bears catch any of the teams above them in the standings? The answer is a resounding yes if we judge the squad by the last few weeks.
I believe that the side will have a tough test on Friday, though, based on the latest team news. Yoo Hee-kwan is expected to start and he’s been shaky this season. And yet, the veteran has decent stats against the Tigers and that’s not a big surprise.
Kia’s offense is the worst in the league and the main reason why the team is ninth in the table. The defense has been decent and Friday’s starter Yoon Joong-hyun can trouble the opposition.
I don’t think he’ll get enough support from his batters, though, so I prefer the Bears in my KBO predictions for Friday.
Samsung Lions to Beat LG Twins
The Lions won convincingly on Thursday and that’s what usually happens when the Twins have the worse starting pitcher. The team’s offense simply can’t carry the game when it faces a strong opponent.
That’s going to be a problem in the next clash too because David Buchanan is next in Samsung’s rotation. The American has been great in 2021 and he can shut down any offense in South Korea.
I can’t say the same for Lee Woo-chan who has been awful in September. The Lions should have a lot of fun against him and it’s hard to go against them. Another win for Samsung is the most logical prediction for this one.
