KBO Predictions and Analysis – Friday, October 1, 2021

| September 30, 2021 11:34 am PDT

September is now behind us, and there’s not much left of the regular season in the best South Korean baseball league. A couple of teams are basically out of the playoffs, and a few more might follow them unless they start winning.

We have a full round of fixtures scheduled for the first day of October, and I cover them in my KBO predictions for Friday. Here are all games included.

  • Hanwha Eagles vs. Samsung Lions
  • KT Wiz Suwon vs. Lotte Giants
  • Doosan Bears vs. LG Twins
  • SSG Landers vs. NC Dinos
  • Kiwoom Heroes vs. Kia Tigers

Samsung Lions to Beat Hanwha Eagles

The Samsung Lions won the opening game against the Eagles thanks to a strong performance by David Buchanan. Hanwha’s offense failed to deliver enough runs against one of the best pitchers in the league, and I expect more of the same on Friday.

Won Tae-in is next in Samsung’s rotation, and his record is exceptional. The star faced the Eagles twice this season already, and he faced no problems whatsoever.

Hanwha’s Kim Min-woo is on the other end of the spectrum. The pitcher lost both of his meetings with the Lions, and he looked lost.

Another victory for the favorite makes the most sense here, and that’s my prediction.

KT Wiz Suwon to Beat Lotte Giants

The Lotte Giants surprised the KBO leaders in the previous round. They built an early lead thanks to a storming start, and that was enough, despite some shaky moments in the late stages of the clash.

The two teams are expected to meet twice on Friday, and I only cover the early encounter in my KBO predictions for October 1.

The starting pitchers from the first clash on Friday are out, and it looks like KT Wiz Suwon should be able to bounce back instantly.

Ko Young-pyo is next in the rotation, and his stats are simply great in 2021. He can certainly stop the opposition, and while the Giants have a decent starter of their own, I still prefer KT Wiz Suwon in this one.

Doosan Bears to Beat LG Twins

The LG Twins exploded on Thursday to beat the Doosan Bears, and their offense looked great. That doesn’t happen often, and I think the next game will be completely different.

For a start, the Bears are expected to send one of their best pitchers. Ariel Miranda has a 12-5 record as a starter in 2021 and on excellent stats.

He’s much better than LG’s Im Chan-kyu, who has lost five of his six starts in the KBO. The Bears have the offensive weapons to punish him, and they should be able to win this one.

NC Dinos to Beat SSG Landers

I expected a win for the Dinos in the previous round, and the team delivered with ease. The Landers simply don’t have enough healthy quality pitchers right now, and that’s causing them all sorts of problems defensively.

They are again forced to send a teenager with very limited experience on Friday, and I expect similar results.

NC’s offense is among the best in the league, and it should easily score enough runs.

On top of that, the reigning champions are expected to send Wes Parsons, who’s been among their more consistent pitchers. That’s enough for me to back the NC Dinos in my KBO predictions for October 1.

Kia Tigers to Beat Kiwoom Heroes

On the surface, it looks like the Kiwoom Heroes should be able to win this one. They are starting the more established pitcher, and they are the stronger team as a whole.

And yet, I have my doubts. The squad’s offense has been abysmal this week and doesn’t look likely to produce much at this moment.

On top of that, Bo Takahashi is expected to start for the Tigers. The youngster looked fantastic in his only game so far when he kept a decent team like the SSG Landers quiet.

I believe that the Tigers can win surprise the Heroes, so I’m backing Kia.
