Juventus vs. Barcelona – Champions League, October 28, 2020

| October 26, 2020 9:26 am PDT

There are some big Champions League games taking place this week, but there is no denying that Juventus vs. Barcelona is the standout tie of Matchday 2.

The two giants of European soccer face off at the Allianz Stadium on Wednesday, October 28, with both sides sitting at the top of Group G following comfortable victories on Matchday 1.

After assessing the bookies’ odds, I share my Juventus vs. Barcelona prediction and betting pick.

Juventus vs. Barcelona Odds

Juventus to Win 2.60
The Draw 3.35
Barcelona to Win 2.65

As you can see, 10bet seems to think there is very little to separate these two sides. Juventus (2.60) is the marginal home favorite, although Barcelona (2.65) isn’t far behind.

With both teams almost guaranteed to qualify for the knockout stages, the head-to-head battles are likely to determine who finishes top of the group. The draw (3.35) could be worth considering here.

Juventus vs. Barcelona Preview

Juventus is yet to taste defeat this season, although the Italians have made a sluggish start to 2020/21 by their own high standards.

Domestically, two wins and three draws have left the Bianconeri sitting fifth in Serie A. Andrea Pirlo’s men were held to a 1-1 draw by newly-promoted Crotone on Matchday 4 before Dejan Kulusevski rescued a point for his side against Verona on Sunday.

Juventus has still been dominating games, but without the absent Cristiano Ronaldo, the team has lacked a cutting edge in attack. Ronaldo was set to return to action this week following a spell of self-isolation, although it remains unclear whether he will be able to resume his rivalry with Lionel Messi.

Alvaro Morata has deputized admirably for Ronaldo I recent games. The Spaniard has netted three goals in his last three appearances, including a brace against Dynamo Kiev last week. As a former Real Madrid player, he will surely be desperate to add to his tally against Los Blancos’ arch rivals.

Over in Spain, Barcelona has struggled to get going this term. The Catalan club won the opening two games of their domestic campaign, but the team now heads into Wednesday’s clash on a three-game winless run in La Liga.

Following a draw with Sevilla and a defeat to Getafe, Barcelona thrashed Ferencvaros 5-1 last week to kick start their Champions League campaign with a bang. However, Ronald Koeman’s side suffered a humiliating 3-1 El Clasico defeat at the weekend.

Ansu Fati scored Barca’s only goal of the game on Saturday, taking his tally to five goals and two assists in all competitions this season. The teenage sensation appears to have taken his game to another level, but a number of his aging team-mates look past their best.

Still, with Messi continuing to shine, Barcelona remains a threat.

Juventus vs. Barcelona Pick

  • Juventus to Win

Neither side has been particularly convincing so far this term, but it feels like Barcelona is in a really bad place right now. Not only did Koeman’s men lose to Real Madrid on Saturday, but the team’s form continues to be affected by off-field issues in Catalonia.

Of course, Juventus will be far stronger with Ronaldo in the team. But even if the Portuguese megastar is forced to sit out of Wednesday’s clash, I still believe the home side has enough quality to claim all three points.
