Prediction and Betting Tips for Joseph Diaz Jr. vs. Javier Fortuna – July 9, 2021

| July 8, 2021 6:41 am PDT

Joseph Diaz vs. Javier Fortuna lock horns for the vacant WBC interim lightweight title at the Banc of California Stadium, Los Angeles, this July 9.

I’ll be walking you through the latest odds for Diaz vs. Fortuna and talking up my pick of the best bets for the fight. I marked this down as one of July’s best boxing matches to bet on, and I’m standing by that decision.

Although Diaz is the favorite for this one, “JoJo” is coming off an underwhelming draw against Shavkat Rakhimov. Weighing in at 3.5 pounds over the 130-pound threshold, the former IBF champ was stripped of his title as a result.

Fortuna was aiming to face Ryan Garcia, only for the emerging prospect to pull out. A win in this fight would represent a huge result for “El Abejón.”

Let’s get to my prediction for Diaz. vs. Fortuna, and the odds and top bets for what could prove to be a cracker.

Who Wins the Diaz. vs. Fortuna Fight?

  • Javier Fortuna by KO/TKO

Look, I know I’m going against the grain in predicting Fortuna to beat Diaz.

But as much as I am a fan of the latter, he has shown the type of indiscipline and poor form as of late, making it hard to back him as a favorite.

In other words, I’m sensing an upset in this fight, which I will expand on a bit later.

First, here are the latest odds for Fortuna vs. Diaz online.

Latest Odds for Diaz vs. Fortuna

Joseph Diaz to Win-210
Javier Fortuna to Win+170

You can find the latest odds for Diaz to beat Fortuna and vice versa over at BetOnline.

Diaz, as previously mentioned, enters the bout as the betting favorite. He’s far from the chalk in this one but is expected to win this fight by many in the boxing community.

Fortuna’s odds to beat Diaz are where the value can be found, however, and I like his moneyline price.

The Dominican southpaw will be backing himself to score the biggest fight of his career, and I have to admit his chances are looking good.

Best Bets for Diaz vs. Fortuna

Fortuna to Win+170
Fight to End Under 10.5 Rounds+225
Fortuna to Win by KO/TKO+400

Our recommended boxing sportsbooks have some juicy odds for Diaz vs. Fortuna.

Now, if you’re betting on Fortuna to win, the price is good enough to take. He is the underdog in this fight, but the value in the odds above makes him the best boxing underdog bet of the month. At least in my opinion.

Another one of my best bets for Diaz vs. Fortuna is the fight to end under 10.5 rounds. This one will catch the eye of fans on both sides of the wall.

But the top wager of them all squares up nicely with my prediction for Diaz vs. Fortuna. Here’s why.

Why Fortuna Beats Diaz

The last time I sensed an upset like this was when I predicted Brandon Figueroa to beat Luis Nery in May.

Figueroa beat the two-division champion convincingly, living up to my theory that something was off about the favorite.

You know, I feel the same way about this fight. Diaz, like Nery, had his title stripped from him for missing weight. He looked unmotivated heading into the scrap, and I suggested that he would deal with his opponent’s power. In almost like-for-like circumstances, I see the same thing happening this Friday.

Fortuna is coming off big wins over Antonio Lozada Jr. and Jesus Cuellar. He will be umped for this one, and I’m looking forward to seeing how he deals with the threat of the Californian southpaw.

My betting picks for Diaz vs. Fortuna are all all based on an upset win for the underdog. I’ll take Fortuna for the KO/TKO win in Round 8.

Wrapping Up My Diaz vs. Fortuna Betting Preview

I’m predicting an upset when JoJo Diaz meets Javier Fortuna this weekend.

Diaz’s lack of discipline could be a major problem. When coupled with Fortuna’s southpaw stance and presentable power, we could witness the first stoppage of the American’s career.

Until next time!
