Jessica Eye vs. Joanne Calderwood Betting Preview for UFC 257 – January 23, 2021

UFC 257 features a solid fight in the women’s flyweight division between Jessica Eye and Joanne Calderwood.
Eye and Calderwood are looking to push themselves into contention for a shot at Valentina Shevchenko’s UFC crown this coming Saturday, January 23. To get the odds, best bets, and my pick for Eye vs. Calderwood, keep reading, and I’ll talk you through the fight.
So, as I say, this is a significant fight in the women’s flyweight division. But in all reality, it’s Calderwood who has the best chance of setting up a date with the champ with a win.
Let’s start with my prediction for the winner of Eye vs. Calderwood at UFC 257.
Eye vs. Calderwood – Who Wins?
- Joanne Calderwood via Decision
With UFC 257 bets hotter than a Californian summer right now, it’s clear to see why this fight is attracting attention, too. But more on that later.
I like Calderwood in this fight. I think the Scot has more to lose, and definitely more to gain, and should be approaching this fight accordingly. One Eye vs. Calderwood prediction straight off the bat here is that this fight will not go to the ground.
If you’re keen on learning more, I’ll expand on my thoughts later. If you’re wagering on Eye vs. Calderwood at UFC 257, let’s check out the odds.

Latest Eye vs. Calderwood Odds
If Jessica Eye to Win (-110) is your pick for Eye vs. Calderwood, the odds can be found at MyBookie.
Although a very tough boxer, Eye does lack pop to her shots. If she is to have any chance of overcoming the Scot, she will certainly need to bring her a-game to the cage on Saturday night.
Amazingly, this fight is set to mark the sixth consecutive bout where Eye closes as the dog. Considering she is 3-2 from her last five, she cannot be written off.
Eye, of course, was the victim of a vicious head kick KO from Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 238 in 2019. As such, she’s a little far behind in the pecking order when it comes to bagging a title shot.
The odds for Joanne Calderwood to Win (-120) demonstrate how tight this one is set to be.
The Muay Thai striker will be desperate to get past Eye, especially since a loss would dump her record to 3-3 from her last six. But the chance of edging one step closer to the titleholder is guaranteed to be enough motivation to put in a great shift in Abu Dhabi.
Best Eye vs. Calderwood Bets
- Fight to go the Distance (-300)
- Calderwood to Win (-120)
- Calderwood to Win by Decision (+120)
In terms of locks, the betting on the Fight to go the Distance (-300) is pretty much a foregone conclusion.
The last time Eye knocked anyone out, humanity was facing the Ebola disaster and the equally troubling Taylor Swift song “Shake it Off.” It’s been over six years since she stopped Leslie Smith at UFC 180.
Calderwood isn’t known for her KO power, either. Her last stoppage win was gained against Valerie Letourneau in 2016.
I don’t fancy either woman to win by submission, either.
Even still, Calderwood to Win (-120) is not that far removed from Calderwood to Win by Decision (+120).
You can either play it safe with the first bet or hope that nothing weird or wonderful happens if you take her at +120 to win by decision.
It’s your call.
Why I’m Backing Calderwood to Beat Eye
Jessica Eye vs. Joanne Calderwood is a tough one to call.
Both ladies are tough, solid strikers, but I think the first way of separating them is by giving the advantage to Calderwood on the feet. I think she is the better striker of the two and will find ways to push Eye backward.
It’s not going to be as exciting as the UFC 257 main event. Majorly because the best ways to make money betting on Conor McGregor’s fights involve backing someone, getting knocked out, or submitted. Wagering on Eye vs. Calderwood is, well, not going to generate the same level of buzz.
Alas, the fight is more than likely going to be contested on the feet. In that case, make sure your bets for Eye vs. Calderwood reflect this. I’m not saying that there won’t be periods when the fight goes to the floor, but I wouldn’t expect any major time spent on the mat.
My prediction for Eye vs. Calderwood at UFC 257 is a decision win for Scotland’s first lady of MMA.
More UFC 257: McGregor vs. Poirier Bets
Well, that’s my predictions and picks done for Eye vs. Calderwood.
I’m taking the latter to come through with the win, in a fight that I don’t expect to go down in history.
However, if you are betting on McGregor vs. Poirier 2 in the main event, you could very well be set to remember January 23 for a long time to come. That is if your UFC 257 bets come through for you.
I’ll leave you with some McGregor vs. Poirier rematch bets, odds, and predictions. I’ll also add some content for the other fights on the card.
Good luck with your bets!
