Jannick Sinner vs. Rafael Nadal – French Open, October 6, 2020

| October 6, 2020 1:35 am PDT

The performance of Jannick Sinner so far is one of the biggest surprises of the 2020 French Open. The Italian became the first player born in 2001 to reach the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament which is a remarkable achievement.

The youngster’s task in the next round looks impossible because he has to face Rafa Nadal. The King of Clay has been unstoppable so far in the tournament and he’s determined to catch Roger Federer in the all-time rankings for major titles.

The Spaniard enters the next match as the overwhelming favorite and I explain why in this Jannick Sinner vs. Rafael Nadal betting preview. The post includes the latest odds, more about both players, my prediction, and a free betting pick.

The Jannick Sinner vs. Rafael Nadal odds of the top-rated tennis betting sites pretty much sum up the expectations. No one believes this clash can go wrong for the favorite and the question is if the teenager can win even a single set.

Jannick Sinner Player Analysis

We all knew that Jannick Sinner was a talented youngster with a bright future, but I don’t think anyone saw his 2020 Roland-Garros run coming. The Italian destroyed the 11th seed David Goffin in the opening round and didn’t lose a set until he met Alexander Zverev in the fourth round.

The German wasn’t too big of a problem either and just like that, Sinner reached the quarterfinals of the French Open, losing only one set in the process and eliminating two seeded players.

The youngster’s performance has defied all expectations, but it hasn’t been flawless. He’s making some double faults here and there, allowing most of his opponents plenty of break points.

Sinner has been able to overcome that by putting a lot of pressure on the guys he met so far, but I’m not sure if it can work against Nadal.

Rafael Nadal Player Analysis

Rafael Nadal has been pretty much perfect so far in the tournament. He’s yet to lose a set in Paris and his last three opponents won 13 games combined, so it’s safe to say that the King of Clay is close to his best days.

The Spaniard expressed some concerns about the new balls in the 2020 French Open early on, but they don’t seem to have affected him too much.

Rafa is once again applying relentless pressure and in the rare moments when he has to defend, it’s almost impossible to finish the point against him.

We’ve seen that before and we know how it ends. With all due respect to Sinner, he’s not the man to stop Nadal when the Spaniard is playing like that.

Sinner vs. Nadal Betting Pick

The big question here is not if Nadal will win but rather if Sinner can put up a fight. The Italian has been awesome so far and there will be no pressure to perform here, so I think he can keep the score close in one or two sets. That should be enough to stay within the +9 games handicap and that’s my pick.

  • Sinner (+9)
