The Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans will meet each other for the first time this season on Sunday, October 11, in the AFC South showdown at NRG Stadium in Houston.

While the hapless Texans still search for their first win in 2020, the Jags are riding a three-game losing streak, so Sunday’s clash in Houston will have so much on the table for both clubs.

Therefore, I’m bringing you the best Jaguars vs. Texans betting pick for the NFL Week 5 along with the latest odds and all the tips and betting trends you need to know.

Jaguars vs. Texans Odds

Jaguars +6.5-115
Texans -6.5-105
Jaguars to Win+235
Texans to Win-280
Over 54-110
Under 54-110

The Texans are clear favorites to beat the Jaguars at home, and I cannot argue with bookmakers. The Jags are still considered as one of the weakest teams in the NFL this season, while rarely who expected to see the Texans winless through the first four weeks of the season.

Jacksonville Jaguars Form

The Jaguars pulled off a huge upset in Week 1, beating the Indianapolis Colts 27-20 as 7.5-point home dogs. Since then, the Jags have lost at Tennessee 33-30 and Cincinnati 33-25, and they’ve also suffered a 31-13 home defeat to Miami.

Last Sunday, the Jags visited Cincinnati and had a 13-10 lead at halftime, but they allowed 17 unanswered third-quarter points. Gardner Minshew tossed for 351 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, while D.J. Chark had eight catches for 95 yards and a couple of scores.

However, the Jags’ defense fell apart once again. They allowed a whopping 505 total yards including 205 on the ground, proving that their run D is awful. The Jags are yielding 138.5 rushing yards per contest (26th in the NFL) along with 29.3 points (23rd).

Houston Texans Form

The Texans’ early schedule was a nightmare, so it’s no strange they lost all four games in 2020. Houston’s first two defeats came against the Chiefs 34-20 and Ravens 33-16. Back in Week 3, the Texans lost at Pittsburgh 28-21, while they suffered a painful 31-23 home defeat to Minnesota this past Sunday.

However, there’s no excuse for playing terrible defense, and the Texans have been terrible on that side of the ball. They allow 31.5 points per game (27th in the NFL) on 393.3 total yards (22nd). Furthermore, the Texans’ run D is the worst in football, yielding 181.8 yards per contest.

Houston simply lacks talent on the defensive end, but that’s not all. The Texans are scoring only 20.0 points per game (29th) while posting only 73.5 rushing yards per game (32nd).

Jaguars vs. Texans Betting Pick

The Texans will be fired up to finally get one into the win column. They should have enough firepower to outlast the Jaguars, and I hope the Texans will manage to improve defensively a bit.

Houston is undefeated in four straight encounters with Jacksonville, covering the spread three times in the process.

Interestingly, the under has hit in the last four encounters between these two AFC South foes, but I think this one will be finished in the over.

The Jaguars are just helpless defensively and will even struggle against the Texans’ ground game that is dead last in the NFL. That’s not all, as Deshaun Watson can count on a few wideouts who will torture the Jags’ secondary.

On the other side, I’ve said that I expect the Texans to improve defensively, but that shouldn’t be enough to limit the Jags below 20 points. There are some young and talented players among the Jaguars, so I’m backing the over on the totals, looking for a proper high-scoring affair.

  • Houston Texans -2.5 at -180
  • Over 54.0 points at -110
