Iowa State Cyclones vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys – College Football, October 24, 2020

| October 22, 2020 3:43 pm PDT

Saturday’s Big 12 showdown at Boone Pickens Stadium promises to be filled with drama. The 6th-ranked Cowboys look to continue on an unblemished path after steamrolling their first three opponents. The 17th-ranked Cyclones are seeking a 4-0 start in conference play for the first time in program history.

It’s undoubtedly one of the best college football games to watch this weekend.

How will the matchup in Stillwater shake out?

Here’s an Iowa State vs. Oklahoma State prediction.

Iowa State vs. Oklahoma State Odds

Iowa State (+3.5)-115
Oklahoma State (-3.5)-105
Iowa State to Win+140
Oklahoma State to Win-165
Over 52-110
Under 52-110

Vegas opened this line with a 4-point spread before the top college football betting sites quickly adjusted down 3.5. The Cyclones and Cowboys have each covered the spread in their last two games, and both teams have been equally impressive in the process.

After upsetting Oklahoma on October 3rd, Iowa State drilled Texas Tech the following Saturday. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State hasn’t played since clobbering Kansas (47-7) three weeks ago. Before that, they easily dispatched West Virginia by a couple of touchdowns.

Cyclones Preview

Some teams like to air it out, others rely on running the football. Matt Campbell’s group has the luxury of being able to switch in and out of gears and be proficient at both.

We saw Breece Hall shine as a freshman in 2019, so it’s no surprise he currently leads the Big 12 in rushing yards per game (132.8). Brock Purdy is starting to warm up after a sluggish start to the year having tossed four touchdowns and zero interceptions over his last three appearances.

While four TD passes don’t jump off the page, lifting the hood on Purdy’s numbers reveals an encouraging trend.

The junior from Arizona has seen his number of passing yards increase week after week. It’ll likely take his best performance of the year in order to keep pace on the road in Stillwater.

Cowboys Preview

Shane Illingworth did a commendable job holding the fort down as Spencer Sanders recovered from a high ankle sprain. So much so that he has continued taking reps in wake of Sanders returning.

Coach Gundy was playing it coy early in the week, and it’s worth noting that Illingworth completed 73.5% of his passes in relief. Then again, the true freshman did most of his damage against a leaky Jayhawks defense.

In any case, this offense revolves around feeding Chuba Hubbard the rock and targeting Tylan Wallace early and often. Hubbard led the nation in rushing in 2019 and is averaging 113 rushing yards/game in 2020. Wallace went on record this week stating he’s comfortable no matter which quarterback is throwing him the ball.

With the offense in good hands, the defense has a firm grip.

The Pokes D has been lights-out – surrendering just 9.0 points and 274.3 yards per game. Senior linebackers Amen Ogbongbemiga and Malcolm Rodriguez help lead a ferocious middle level

Iowa State vs. Oklahoma State Pick

Let’s say you call the running games a wash. The Cowboys have a more explosive passing game and have been stingier on defense.

Plus they the Cowboys playing at home and have had an extra week to prepare and get healthy.

Rather than overthink an Iowa State vs. Oklahoma State prediction, I’m backing the team with the coolest mascot in college football.
