Inter vs. Torino – Serie A, November 22, 2020

Inter is going through a rough period of the season, and this international break can only do them well as they failed to get a win in the previous four matches in all competitions. The Nerazzurri collected just two points from the opening three games in the Champions League, while the situation in Serie A is slightly better. Antonio Conte’s side is in 7th position with 12 points from seven rounds.

Torino recorded a win and a loss in the last two Serie A games against Genoa and Crotone, respectively, and escaped the relegation zone, but a potential loss to Inter here can take them back to the danger zone. After securing five points from the opening seven rounds, Torino is in 17th place.

Inter won only one of their last eight competitive matches (D5, L2), and are without a win in the previous four (D3, L1). Holding the lead appears to be a problem, as three of the four draws that didn’t end without goals saw Inter scoring the opening goal. However, six of their last seven games have also provided the same halftime/fulltime result.

The hosts haven’t won here since the opening Serie A round (W1, D2, L1 – in all competitions), with all four games producing over 2.5 goals and both teams scoring. In fact, three of those saw both sides score at least twice! There might be more of the same in this duel given there have been goals at both ends in the previous five H2H meetings at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (W2, D2, L1).

Antonio Conte will be without Marcelo Brozovic (illness), Aleksandar Kolarov (illness), Roberto Gagliardini, and Matias Vecino (knee).

However, despite that, they’ve still dropped 11 points from winning positions this term – the worst of any team across Europe’s top five leagues ahead of this round.

Still, four of the previous five H2H duels held at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza have provided a minimum of three goals, with Torino scoring six of their seven goals during the run after halftime.

Inter won four of the previous ten H2H encounters (D3, L3), including the last two, while the Nerazzurri won two of the past four meetings at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (D2). Antonio Conte’s side must get a win or the fans will start calling for his head, and I think this match with Torino came at a perfect time for Inter, because Torino is struggling, despite the last two games without a loss.

Torino is scoring a solid amount of goals, though, and they found the back of the net in eight of the previous nine H2H duels at his venue. I am backing them to score here, but I am going with Inter to win.
