A quick glance at the Champions League standings, and you would be forgiven for thinking that Group B appears to be upside down. Indeed, Borussia Monchengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk currently occupy the qualification spots, while Inter Milan and Real Madrid make up the bottom two.

Inter and Real produced a five-goal thriller on Matchday 3, with Los Blancos winning 3-2 on that occasion. Who will come out on top when the two sides clash at San Siro on Wednesday, November 25?

The sportsbooks view this as a hugely competitive matchup. With the home advantage, Inter Milan (2.15) is the favorite. But the high price for the Inter win underlines just how strong Real Madrid (3.10) is.

At first glance, the tasty odds for the draw stand out to me.

Despite losing just one of their opening eight Serie A games, Inter is yet to win a Champions League match this term. Draws with Gladbach and Shakhtar came before the defeat to Real Madrid, leaving the Narazzurri bottom of Group B.

However, due to the congested nature of the group, Antonio Conte’s men could find themselves at the summit of the standings after Matchday 4. First-place Gladbach is only three points ahead, so it is still very much all to play for.

With Romelu Lukaku in blistering form, it is difficult to image Inter bowing out of the Champions League at the group stage. The Belgian forward has bagged nine goals in nine appearances in all competitions this season, including two goals in two UCL matches.

Unsurprisingly, Lukaku netted a brace as Inter came from two goals down to beat Torino 4-2 at the weekend. Conte’s men are among the early frontrunners in the Italian top flight, and they are also the joint-top scorers in the division.

Real Madrid has also endured a tricky start to the 2020/21 Champions League, with a record of W1-D1-L1 underlining the team’s inconsistency. Los Blancos suffered a shock 3-2 defeat to Shakhtar on Matchday 1, before drawing 2-2 with Gladbach.

Goals from Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos gave Zinedine Zidane’s side a comfortable advantage against Inter, yet strikes from Lautaro Martinez and Ivan Peresic saw Inter level the score. But Brazilian youngster Rodrygo popped up late on to hand Real their first UCL win of the campaign.

Zidane’s men already sit six points behind leaders Real Sociedad in Spain’s top flight, having only managed to win five of their first nine La Liga games. Real thrashed Huesca 4-1 at the end of October before losing to Valencia by the scoreline, making it tough to gauge how the team will fare on Wednesday.

With Inter seemingly growing into the season, Los Blancos can’t afford to be complacent at San Siro.

In my opinion, these two sides are pretty evenly matched right now. Neither team has been overly convincing so far this season, yet they are both picking up enough results to get by.

The previous meeting between the teams was a closely-fought encounter, so I think the draw is the way to go this time around.
