Inter Miami vs. Nashville SC – MLS, September 22, 2021
Expansion siblings Inter Miami and Nashville SC go head-to-head in Florida on Wednesday, September 22, with both sides aiming to cap off their second season in Major League Soccer with a run to the playoffs.
Ninth-place Inter Miami trails second-place Nashville by nine points in the Eastern Conference, although both teams have enjoyed a series of positive results of late.
Can the Herons close the gap? Or will the team from Tennessee come out on top? I answer those questions – and a whole load more – in this Inter Miami vs. Nashville SC betting preview.
Join me as I analyze the teams, discuss the MLS odds for Wednesday’s clash, and share my prediction and pick for Inter Miami vs. Nashville SC.
Will Inter Miami Return to Winning Ways?
Inter Miami’s remarkable hot streak had to come to an end at some point, didn’t it?
Phil Neville’s men had taken 16 points from a possible 18 in the lead-up to Week 26, picking up five wins and a draw along the way. However, they were totally humiliated by the Red Bulls last time out.
Still, it is worth remembering that Neville’s men have only lost two of their previous 12 matches. They currently find themselves just three points outside the playoff places and remain one of the league’s in-form teams.
Gonzalo Higuain and co. will be hoping that last weekend’s loss was nothing more than a freak result.
Can Nashville Get Back on Track?
Nashville suffered only their third defeat of the year in the previous round, going down 2-1 to Toronto FC. Despite enjoying the majority of possession and racking up 11 shots – five of which were on target – Gary Smith’s men registered a rare loss.
CJ Sapong found the back of the net again last time out, taking his 2021 tally to ten goals and four assists. With Hany Mukhtar (10 goals, 8 assists) also enjoying a standout campaign, Nashville shouldn’t be too concerned.
Thanks largely to the exploits of Sapong and Mukhtar, the Boys in Gold are the fourth-highest scorers in the East. Better still, they boast the best defensive record in the division – having conceded a measly 23 goals in 24 matches.
Considering Smith’s men have lost just two of their past 16 games (8 wins, 6 draws), I can’t see them suffering back-to-back defeats on Wednesday.
Inter Miami vs. Nashville SC Odds
The top-rated MLS betting sites view Inter Miami (2.63) as the marginal home favorite here, although Nashville (2.70) isn’t far behind. The draw (3.10) is the biggest moneyline price for this matchup.
As you can see, I have included a couple of goal-based markets, too. It is pretty difficult to predict the outcome of this game, so it could be worth exploring other options.
Inter Miami vs. Nashville SC Prediction and Pick
Under 2.5 Goals1.80
Given that Inter Miami and Nashville registered losses in the previous round, both sides will be eager to avoid defeat on Wednesday. With that in mind, I expect the teams to dish up a tense and cagey encounter.
The two sides have played a combined total of 48 MLS matches this year. Yet, only 22 of those have produced over 2.5 goals (45%). Not only do Smith’s men boast the best defensive record in the East, but the Herons are the second-lowest scorers in the conference.
Having taken everything into account, the under 2.5 goals bet is my Inter Miami vs. Nashville SC pick.
