Inter Miami ended a three-game losing streak by beating New York Red Bulls on Wednesday. The Herons will now be aiming to win back-to-back MLS games for the first time in their history when they host Houston Dynamo for a cross-conference matchup on Saturday, October 10.

Tab Ramos’ side also tasted victory in midweek. Houston saw off Texas rival FC Dallas to end a six-game winless run, despite being reduced to ten men just before half time.

Both sides are languishing towards the bottom end of their respective conferences, although Houston (4.40) is the bookies’ clear outsider here.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Inter Miami came from behind to secure an impressive victory over the Red Bulls last time out. The New York club took the lead early in the second half, but Diego Alonso’s men rallied and eventually turned the game around.

Matias Pellegrini scored the equalizer, although it was the Herons’ recent high-profile arrivals who stole the show. Blaise Matuidi made an outstanding goal-line clearance to keep his side in the game, before Gonzalo Higuain netted a superb free-kick to clinch all three points for Miami.

Last month, a strong run of one defeat in five games saw the Florida club climb up the Eastern Conference. However, all their hard work was undone by three straight defeats soon after. But having sealed a comeback victory in midweek, Alonso’s men will head into the weekend brimming with confidence.

Meanwhile, I don’t think it would be unfair to say that Houston was extremely fortunate to win their previous game. Following Mauro Manotas’ first-half red card, the Dynamo finished the Texas Derby with just 28% possession. But goals from the two Darwins – Quintero and Ceren – saw Tab Ramos’ side earn an unlikely victory.

After failing to win any of their six games leading up to Wednesday’s clash, it goes without saying that Houston will be mightily relieved. And let’s be honest, getting the better of your local rival always makes a victory taste even sweeter.

However, the Dynamo can’t afford to celebrate for too long. The Texans may be within touching distance of the top eight in the Western Conference, but Ramos’ men must improve if they are serious about challenging for the play-offs.

Inter Miami show great spirit to secure a comeback win on Wednesday. The Herons have taken a few months to settle, but it finally feels like they are ready to notch up back-to-back MLS victories for the very first time.

Don’t get me wrong, Houston also showed determination in their previous outing. But the team has been wildly inconsistent in recent weeks. That’s why I’m backing Miami to come away with maximum points on Saturday.
