Inter Miami vs. CF Montreal – MLS, May 12, 2021

The Herons extended their unbeaten streak to three games with a 1-1 draw against Atlanta United last weekend. Next up, CF Montreal visits Florida on Wednesday, May 12.
Wilfried Nancy’s men kicked off their 2021 MLS campaign with a three-match unbeaten run of their own. However, they suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday – losing 2-0 to Canadian rivals Vancouver.
With the two sides locked on five points in the Eastern Conference, Wednesday’s clash is destined to be a tight affair.
After checking out the MLS odds and looking at the teams, I will provide my Inter Miami vs. CF Montreal prediction and betting pick.
Inter Miami vs. CF Montreal Odds
Given that Montreal has made an impressive start to the season, the giant price for the away win is bound to attract plenty of attention here.
Don’t get me wrong – I think that Miami deserves to be the bookies’ favorite. But when you consider that both teams have made similar starts to the campaign, the short odds for the home win feel far too low.
Can the Herons Maintain Their Unbeaten Run?
After much anticipation, the Phil Neville era began with a 3-2 loss to the LA Galaxy. Despite taking the lead twice on the opening weekend, Miami threw away their advantage on two occasions and ultimately ended Week 1 on a sour note.
Still, it didn’t take long for Neville to claim his first win in Major League Soccer.
Having notched up a goal and an assist against the Galaxy, Gonzalo Higuain scored again as the Herons came from behind to beat Philadelphia 2-1 in Week 2. It goes without saying that downing the reigning Supporters’ Shield champions would have please Neville.
Miami was held to a goalless draw by Nashville two weekends ago before sealing a 1-1 draw with Atlanta on Sunday. The Florida outfit appeared to be heading for defeat, but Lewis Morgan picked the perfect time to open his account for the season – equalizing on 77 minutes.
Interestingly, Miami has yet to enjoy more possession than an opponent this year. Neville’s men only saw 38% of the ball against Atlanta, although they still managed to chalk up 17 attempts.
Will Montreal Return to Winning Ways?
Montreal shocked everyone by claiming a rare 4-2 victory over Toronto FC in Week 1. While Neville tasted defeat, Nancy began his journey as an MLS head coach with a hugely impressive win.
The Canadians then secured a 2-2 draw with Nashville before holding Columbus to a goalless stalemate, meaning they were unbeaten after the opening three rounds.
The Quebec club was brought back down to earth by the Whitecaps on Saturday – losing 2-0. But once again, Montreal controlled the ball (61%) and created plenty of goalscoring opportunities (16).
Ex-Minnesota United forward Mason Toye has bagged two goals in two appearances this season, while Romell Quioto and Djordje Mihailovic have also found the back of the net in 2021.
Things are looking up for Montreal.
Inter Miami vs. CF Montreal Prediction and Pick
-
CF Montreal to Win5.75
Simply for the potential profit, the away win is my Inter Miami vs. CF Montreal betting pick.
Sure, the Herons are currently enjoying a three-game unbeaten streak. But they have looked far from convincing in their previous two outings and only managed to take two points from a possible six against Nashville and Atlanta.
On the flip side, Montreal has already scored six goals this year. Having proved they can beat Toronto and compete with both Nashville and Columbus, I wouldn’t be surprised at Nancy’s men got the better of Miami.
Plus, odds of 5.75 are just too good to miss, right?
