Inter Miami vs. Atlanta United – MLS, October 14, 2020
Inter Miami and Atlanta United have already faced each other three times this year, and the Herons remain unbeaten against the Five Stripes in 2020. The two sides clash again on Wednesday, October 14, with Atlanta sitting just one point ahead of Miami in the Eastern Conference.
Both teams have only managed to win five of their 17 games this term, so it’s fair to say that neither side is enjoying a successful season. But considering that Miami is competing in their debut MLS campaign, Diego Alonso will be happy that his team remains in contention for a play-off spot.
Who will come out on top in the fourth edition of this fixture? You can find my Inter Miami vs. Atlanta United prediction and betting pick below.
Inter Miami vs. Atlanta United Odds
Despite Atlanta’s (4.75) one-point lead over Inter Miami (1.60), 10bet views the home side as the clear favorite to win this game. And given that Miami has already recorded two 2-1 wins and a goalless draw against the Five Stripes this year, it’s difficult to argue with the bookies’ odds.
Let’s take a closer look at the teams.
Inter Miami vs. Atlanta United Preview
17 games into their maiden MLS season, Inter Miami has finally secured back-to-back wins. The Herons came from behind to beat New York Red Bulls 2-1 last week before edging Houston Dynamo 1-0 on Saturday.
It has been a tough debut campaign for a number of reasons, yet it seems as though Alonso’s men have finally found their feet. Of course, Blaise Matuidi’s arrival has strengthened the Herons’ midfield, while Gonzalo Higuain has given them a new lease of life in attack. But it feels like every player has upped their game recently.
Miami was languishing at the foot of the Eastern Conference for some time, but the Florida outfit is now six points ahead of bottom-club DC United and four points clear of second-bottom Cincinnati. The entire team must be given huge credit for turning things around and climbing into contention for a play-off spot.
The Five Stripes finished second in the Eastern Conference last year, but they have struggled to replicate last season’s form. In fact, it’s fair to say that Atlanta has been one of the worst performers in the division this time around.
Interim head coach Stephan Glass can’t seem to establish a rhythm for the team, with sporadic victories coming in between disappointing defeats on a regular basis. The Georgia outfit appeared to be back on track following a 4-0 thrashing of DC last weekend. But after drawing with Orlando City and losing to the Red Bulls, it is clear that Atlanta’s problems aren’t going away anytime soon.
Inter Miami vs. Atlanta United Betting Pick
I don’t like the look of the low price for the home win here. Yes, Miami has improved dramatically in recent weeks. But let’s not forget that Atlanta is more than capable of blowing the Herons away.
Having taken everything into consideration, I believe the draw is the way to go. Neither side has been overly convincing this year, and odds of 4.10 seem too good to miss!
