Read on for my Wednesday stakes race picks for Indiana Grand Race Course.
Picks for Indiana Grand Race 6
This is the Merrillville Stakes, a race for Indiana-bred fillies and mares three years old and older running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $75,000.
In this race, I like the third-favored (4/1) entry for the win—Unbridled Class, with Rodney Prescott in the irons. This five-year-old mare finished in the money 22 of her 25 career starts, winning 11 of them.
Longest I’ll go for a bargain show bet is the 10/1 Ever Wonder, with Eduardo Perez aboard. This five-year-old mare moneyed 13 of her 18 career starts, winning 8 of them.
- Win: Unbridled Class 4/1
- Show: Ever Wonder 10/1
Picks for Indiana Grand Race 7
This is the Florence Henderson Stakes, a race for Indiana-bred fillies and mares three years old and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles on turf for a purse of $75,000.
I like the second-favored (9/2) entry in this race—Magical Peapod, piloted by Albin Jimenez. This five-year-old mare moneyed 13 of her 19 career starts, winning five of them.
Plenty of longshots in this stakes race, but the longest I’d go for a bargain show ticket would be the 15/1 Pretty Assets, ridden by Jermaine Bridgmohan. This four-year-old filly moneyed 14 of her 25 career starts, winning four.
- Win: Magical Peapod 9/2
- Show: Pretty Assets 15/1
Pick for Indiana Grand Race 8
This is the Brickyard Stakes, a race for Indiana-bred three-year-olds and older running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $75,000.
I’m backing the second-favored (7/2) entry here—Flatter Hymn, with veteran jockey Deshawn Parker in the irons. This three-year-old gelding won all three of his career starts.
While there are some interesting long-odds competitors in this race, I see none with a sufficient enough chance of finishing in the money to warrant a show bet.
- Win: Flatter Hymn 7/2
Picks for Indiana Grand Race 9
This is the A. J. Foyt Stakes, a race for Indiana-bred three-year-olds and upward running a distance of 1-1/16 miles on turf for a purse of $75,000.
I’m going with the fourth-favored (6/1) Redskiesatnight, ridden by Fernando De La Cruz. This three-year-old gelding moneyed all four of his career starts, winning three of them.
Plenty of long-odds entries in this race, including a near-irresistible 50/1 horse—but resist that bet you must. In fact, the longest I’d go with a value show wager in this race would be the 15/1 Plainfield, with veteran jockey Rocco Bowen in the irons. This six-year-old gelding moneyed 13 of his 25 career starts, winning five of them.
- Win: Redskiesatnight 6/1
- Show: Plainfield 15/1
