Indiana Grand Race Course’s race card for Thursday features 11 maiden, allowance, and claiming matches, and among three of the richest races I found at least one solid underdog winner in addition to a couple of long-odds contenders.

This is an allowance race for two-year-old fillies running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $32,500.

I’m going with the 7/5 morning line favorite — Taylor Avenue, with Deshawn Parker in the irons. This filly won her single career start. Sure, the second-favored (8/5) Seeking Seca has an identical record, but a slight superiority in speed stats suggests a win from Taylor Avenue. Nevertheless, expect a tightly contested race.

At 15/1, I have to like Chandana, ridden by Joshua Morales, for a show ticket. Just like the morning line favorite, this filly won her only career start. Sure, her jockey is an apprentice, but that means Chandana carries seven fewer pounds than the rest of the field. You might even consider an across the board wager here.

This is an allowance race for Indiana-breds three years old and upward running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $36,500.

I’m putting my money on the second-favored (5/2) entry in this race — Major Sparks, with Santo Sanjur aboard. This three-year-old gelding moneyed four of his nine career starts, winning two.

At 30/1 it’s hard to resist a show ticket on Comes N Threes, ridden by Rodney A. Prescott. This four-year-old colt’s record prior to 2020 is not impressive, but he has turned it around this year, with money finishes in three of his six starts, with one win.

This is an allowance race for Indiana-breds three years old and upward running a distance of one mile and 70 yards for a purse of $38,500.

I’m sticking with the 5/2 morning line favorite — Mai Tai’s Gem, with Santo Sanjur in the irons. This three-year-old gelding finished in the money six of his seven career starts, winning two of them.

The two 15/1 entries in this race don’t look like they’ll finish anywhere near the money, so let’s save our long bets for next time.
