Indiana Grand Race Course Picks – Tuesday, August 25, 2020

Indiana Grand Race Course in Shelbyville, Indiana brings us 11 allowance, claiming, and maiden races for Tuesday, August 25, 2020. While ten of the races are thoroughbred competitions, the final match is a maiden 400-yard run for quarter horses.
The weather forecast for Tuesday in Shelbyville calls for mostly sunny skies, temperatures in the low 90s, a ten percent chance of rain, and winds around eight mph.
My picks and betting tips for Indiana Grand continue below. The first race on Tuesday is at 2:20 PM (EDT).
Pick for Indiana Grand Race Course Race 2
This is a maiden special weight race for Indiana-bred two-year-olds running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $35,000.
I’m going with the 9/5 morning line favorite here: Henry Rules, ridden by Santo Sanjur. A clipping DQ’d this gelding from what would have been his first win earlier this month at Indiana Grand, but he was still awarded second place in that race. For the record, Henry Rules has two career starts.
No long odds here (or at least, none worth the risk), meaning all these two-year-olds are as likely to win as they are to lose. More succinctly: Let’s save our longshot money for later.
- Win: Henry Rules 9/5
Indiana Grand Picks for Race 3
This is an allowance optional claiming race for three-year-olds and upward running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $34,500.
I’m going to put my money on the fourth-favored (5/1) entry in this race: Batterbatterswing, with Robby Albarado in the irons. This five-year-old gelding moneyed 17 of his 24 career starts, winning seven of them, which gives him the best statistics in this field.
No long-odds entries here, but you may want to base a trifecta around the following group: Batterbatterswing, Pole Setter, and Restoring Hope (4-5-1)
- Win: Batterbatterswing 5/1
- Trifecta: Batterbatterswing, Pole Setter, Restoring Hope (4-5-1)
Indiana Grand Picks for Race 4
This is a maiden special weight race for Indiana-bred two-year-olds running a distance of 5-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $35,000.
I’m sticking with the 9/5 favorite here: Sudden Shift, with Jermaine Bridgmohan aboard. Of the top three contenders, this gelding has failed to finish in the money the least (zero money finishes out of zero career starts). Pretty wild-card for a 9/5 favorite, but there you are.
Aside from the top three morning line favorites, every entry in this race is a longshot. And I only see one of those with any discernable advantage: the 20/1 Punkster, with Kendal Sterritt in the irons. Sterritt brings with him a seven-pound apprentice allowance, which gives his mount much less a load to carry across the finish line. Let’s not get too excited, though–I only see that as a show-bet advantage.
- Win: Sudden Shift 9/5
- Show: Punkster 20/1
