Incheon United vs. Suwon Samsung Bluewings – K League 1, October 4, 2020
Possibly the most important game in K League 1 this weekend is not taking place in Ulsan or Jeonbuk, but in the northwestern city of Incheon.
The hometown club has looked revitalized in the last few weeks and now takes on Suwon Samsung Bluewings knowing that another win could keep what had seemed like an impossible relegation escape on track.
Latest Betting Odds
It seems strange that although Incheon United has lost just once in the last five K League 1 games that MyBookie has made the home team the underdog here. Suwon has also picked up form recently too, but the odds for the draw or the home win look the better value here.
It took far too long but Incheon United is really starting to play now. After winning four of the previous seven the Black-Blues really stepped on the gas last weekend and thrashed a shell-shocked Seongnam 6-0 away from home. Star striker Stefan Mugosa bagged three in an incredibly well-timed victory.
But Incheon now goes into the final four games of the season with the possibility of its perennial top goal scorer being unable to play. He has been called up to the Montenegro international team and – with fixtures and quarantine rules combined – that would mean the end of his domestic season.
Suwon will be hoping that Incheon’s appeal to the Montenegrin soccer association will fall on deaf ears. He has been instrumental to Incheon’s survival hopes and that, as well as an upturn in Bluewings’ results, would definitely tip the balance of this Sunday’s game in their favor.
Suwon enjoyed another Super Match victory last weekend when it beat FC Seoul 3-1 with its own main man, Adam Taggart, scoring all the goals in a valuable win. Like Mugosa, the Australian forward was slow to get into the groove of the season. But some more strikes in the four remaining games should be enough to ensure that the Bluewings do not drop into K League 2.
Prediction and Betting Pick
A lot depends on the availability of Stefan Mugosa when it comes to predicting the outcome of this fixture. With the Montenegro striker, I can see Incheon United continuing its great recent form and picking up another three points. But without his talismanic presence, Suwon has much more of a chance of coming away with at least a draw.
