Iga Swiatek vs. Sofia Kenin – 2020 French Open

I have to say that I would’ve never predicted the 2020 French Open women’s singles final. Sofia Kenin won the Australian Open at the start of the year, so her presence in the last match in Paris is not a complete shocker. I don’t think anyone expected to see Iga Swiatek as her opponent, though.

The Iga Swiatek vs. Sofia Kenin odds at the online sports betting sites show that they expect a win for the teenager, but the American should put up a fight. I’m not sure about the second part, as you can see in my analysis below.

I don’t remember a run as dominant as the one Swiatek produced to reach the 2020 French Open final. Maybe Serena Williams in her prime has done something similar in a Grand Slam event, but I’m not sure about that.

The Polish teenager is yet to lose a set and she didn’t allow any of her opponents more than five games combined. That’s a truly remarkable achievement and Swiatek is even in the semifinals of the doubles events!

The youngster is flying right now and her style includes both aggressive strokes from all over the court and stellar defense. It’s hard to see how Swiatek is going to lose in the final if she can perform on the same level.

2020 has been excellent for Sofia Kenin who found her maiden Grand Slam victory in the Australian Open and now has the chance to add another major title. The American loves clay courts and it shouldn’t be a huge surprise that she’s doing well in the 2020 French Open.

Unlike her opponent in the final, Kenin had to work hard to get here. She lost a set on four separate occasions so far but showed mental strength to close the third set in all of them in devastating fashion.

The American was very impressive against Petra Kvitova in the semifinal and certainly has confidence in her chances. And yet, her performance has been shaky at times, at least compared to her opponent. She allows too many break points and makes more unforced errors than Swiatek which could be a huge problem in the final.

Iga Swiatek simply looks unstoppable right now and I don’t think that will change in the final versus Sofia Kenin. I’m surprised to see the handicap line set at only -3 games and I’m more than happy to take it. Unless the pressure gets to the head of the Polish teenager, she should be able to win.
