Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas – MLS, September 5, 2020

| September 3, 2020 4:01 am PDT

This matchup brings together two teams moving in opposite directions. Sporting KC still sits top of the Wetsern Conference, although a three-game winless run has jeopardized their position. On the other hand, Houston started the season slowly, but back-to-back victories have propelled the Texas club up the standings.

Following the Dynamo’s statement 5-2 win in this fixture just last week, the Wizards will be out for revenge this weekend. The two sides clash at BBVA Stadium on Saturday, September 5. I share my Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City prediction and betting pick below.

Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City Odds

Houston Dynamo to Win 2.50
The Draw 3.60
Sporting Kansas City to Win 2.50

Despite SKC’s seven-point lead over Houston, the top online sportsbooks can’t seem to separate these two. The Wizards may find themselves in a stronger position as things stand, but the Dynamo’s recent resurgence has clearly caught the attention of the bookies.

Let’s take a closer look at the teams.

Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City Preview

Houston failed to win any of their opening six games this year. Tab Ramos’ side picked up just one point from a possible six before the regular season was suspended and only managed to add a further two points to their tally at the MLS is Back Tournament.

However, the Orange has returned from Florida with a point to prove. Following a draw with Texas rival FC Dallas, two huge victories have given Dynamo supporters plenty of reasons for optimism. Houston crushed SKC 5-2 last week before cruising past Minnesota with a 3-0 win on Wednesday.

Colombian forward Darwin Quintero has been at the heart of the action, notching up a brace and an assist against SKC before opening the scoring against Minnesota. Better still, Ariel Lassiter marked his Houston debut by netting a double in midweek. The former LA Galaxy man recently joined the club on loan from Costa Rican side LD Alajuelense, and he already looks like an excellent addition.

Sporting KC kicked off 2020 with two big wins and made it to the quarter-finals of the MLS is Back Tournament last month. Things were looking good for the Wizards when they returned to regular-season action with a victory over the Loons, but it’s been all downhill since then.

After being thrashed by Houston, Peter Vermes’ side comes into this clash on the back of consecutive draws. Sure, avoiding defeat to Colorado Rapids and Dallas isn’t the end of the world. But SKC was expected to win both of those games.

Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City Prediction and Pick

  • Houston Dynamo to Win

The momentum is definitely with Houston right now. Ramos’ men appear to have found their rhythm, with two big wins coming in the space of a week. Ultimately, it’s very difficult to ignore Houston’s 5-2 hammering of Sporting KC. The result will still be fresh in the memories of both sides, and that surely gives the Dynamo the edge on Saturday.
