Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City – MLS, October 3, 2020
Houston Dynamo will be aiming to end a barren five-game winless run when Sporting Kansas City visits BBVA Stadium on Saturday, October 3.
Tab Ramos’ men can take confidence from the fact that they have already beaten the Wizards twice since the regular season resumed. But Sporting KC still has fond memories of playing in this fixture, with a 4-0 victory over Houston coming back in March.
I assess the bookies’ odds before giving my Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City prediction and betting pick.
Latest Betting Odds
Despite claiming two recent wins over Sporting KC, Houston is the bookies’ outsider here. The Dynamo trails third-place SKC by four points, and the Wizards also have a game in hand over their upcoming opponent.
Interestingly, after three games between the teams this year, the aggregate scoreline sits at 7-7. Who will come out on top this time around? I assess both sides’ chances below.
Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City Preview
When Sporting KC thrashed Houston 4-0 back in March, it felt as though there was a huge gulf between the teams. But almost six months later, the Dynamo got their revenge. The Texas club won 5-2 at the end of August before edging the previous meeting 2-1, so it’s difficult to predict which way this game will go.
Since beating SKC at the beginning of September, Ramos’ men have been in poor form at both ends of the pitch. Not only have they struggled to score goals, but they have also failed to keep the ball out of their own net.
Two defeats and three draws in their previous five outings have seen the Orange fall down the Western Conference, with last week’s 4-0 defeat to Chicago Fire a real low point. However, let’s not forget that two of Houston’s three wins this year have come against Sporting KC.
If it wasn’t for the Wizard’s strong start to the campaign, they would undoubtedly find themselves a lot further down the table right now. SKC won five of their opening six games this term, but the team hasn’t been able to replicate their early-season form in recent weeks.
Peter Vermes’ men have only managed to win one of their last seven games, although I think they have been pretty unfortunate of late. Each of their previous three defeats have come by a single-goal margin, and the team created countless goalscoring opportunities on every occasion.
If Sporting KC continues to put in similar performances, it is surely only a matter of time before Vermes’ side returns to winning ways.
Prediction and Betting Pick
Houston and Sporting KC have both been struggling recently. The Dynamo is without a win in five games, while SKC has only managed to win one of their last seven. For that reason, I think the draw is the way to go here.
Despite Houston winning the previous two meetings between the sides, the teams have been fairly evenly matched. I wouldn’t be surprised if the points were shared on Saturday.
