Fresh from securing a dramatic late victory over Austin FC on Sunday, Sporting KC heads to Texas to face Houston at BBVA Stadium on Wednesday, May 12.

After losing just one of their four matches this season, the Wizards find themselves fifth in the Western Conference standings. On the flip side, eleventh-place Houston sits second from bottom, having only managed to register one win this year.

I have created this Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City betting preview to help you wager on Wednesday’s MLS clash. Along with odds and team analysis, you can find my prediction and pick below.

Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting KC Odds

Houston Dynamo to Win2.30
The Draw3.60
Sporting Kansas City to Win2.85

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly surprised by the odds for Houston vs. SKC.

Of course, it is still early days in the 2021 MLS season. Given that Peter Vermes’ side finished atop the West last year and the Dynamo ended up rock bottom, the Wizards should beat Houston.

The Texans will obviously benefit somewhat from the home-field advantage on Wednesday. Still, the high price for the away win stands out here.

Assessing Houston’s Early-Season Form

Tab Ramos’ men kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 victory over San Jose. But since then, they have only managed to claim two points from a possible nine.

After losing to Portland in Week 2, Houston was able to hold LAFC to an unexpected draw. The Dynamo even took the lead in Saturday’s Texas Derby, but they failed to hold onto their advantage and ended up recording a second successive 1-1 draw.

Fafa Picault – who left Dallas for Houston in the offseason – scored against his former club last time out, meaning he now has one goal and one assist this year. Ex-Indy Eleven forward Tyler Pasher also boasts the same record, having netted against LAFC.

There is no denying that Houston’s new signings have improved the team. Joe Corona and Derrick Jones have hit the ground running in midfield, Maxi Urruti and Ariel Lassiter have bolstered the Dynamo’s forward line, while Tim Parker has slotted into the backline seamlessly.

When all the newcomers settle fully, Houston will almost certainly improve.

Sporting KC Team News and Analysis

Trailing 1-0 with less than ten minutes to play, it looked as though Sporting KC was heading for a shock loss to Austin last time out. Thankfully, late goals from Ilie Sanchez and Gadi Kinda clinched a comeback win.

Having racked up 25 shots, the Wizards thoroughly deserved to claim all three points on Sunday. They finished the game with almost 60% possession, too, underlining their dominance.

Vermes’ men beat the Red Bulls only the opening weekend before taking just one point from their next two outings – drawing with Orlando City and losing to Real Salt Lake.

With four games behind them, Sporting KC have only suffered one defeat this year.

After making his loan move permanent during that offseason, Gadi Kinda has already chalked up two goals this year. He looks set to offer useful support to guys likes Alan Pulido and Daniel Salloi in the attack.

The 2020 Western Conference winners have yet to get into their groove this season, but they have still managed to seal many positive results in 2021. Just imagine what they will be like when they find their best form!

My Dynamo vs. Sporting KC Prediction

Pick
  • Sporting Kansas City to Win
    2.85

I am well aware that Houston has made a solid start to the season. But in my eyes, the attractive price for the away win cannot be ignored here.

Although the online sportsbooks believe the Dynamo has the upper hand, it is important to remember that first-place Sporting KC finished a colossal 18 points ahead of last-place Houston last year.

The away win has to be my Houston Dynamo vs. SKC betting pick.
