Houston Dynamo vs. Nashville SC – MLS, October 14, 2020

| October 12, 2020 11:42 am PDT

Nashville managed to hold the Dynamo to a 1-1 draw at Nissan Stadium at the end of September. The two teams meet again on Wednesday, October 14, with Houston’s BBVA Stadium the venue this time around.

Houston currently sits one point ahead of Nashville in the overall standings, although the Tennessee club has a game in hand over the Texans. Both sides have four wins to their name this year, so this is destined to be a closely-fought encounter.

Join me as I share my prediction and pick for Wednesday’s clash in this Houston Dynamo vs. Nashville SC betting preview.

Houston Dynamo vs. Nashville SC Odds

Houston Dynamo to Win 1.90
The Draw 3.35
Nashville SC to Win 3.85

I’m not surprised that 10bet has named Houston (1.90) as the favorite to win this one. However, Tab Ramos’ men have only managed to win one of their last eight outings, so they are by no means guaranteed all three points on Wednesday.

Nashville’s (3.85) eye-catching four-game unbeaten streak was ended by Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, but it is worth pointing out that Gary Smith’s side recorded three straight draws during that run.

Houston Dynamo vs. Nashville SC Preview

Houston ended a run of six games without a win by beating local rival FC Dallas 2-0 last week. You would have thought that a Texas Derby victory would give Ramos’ men a much-needed morale boost, but they returned to losing ways just a few days later.

The Dynamo managed just two shots on target against Inter Miami on Saturday, missing the opportunity to win back-to-back games for the first time since early September. Needless to say, a record of one win in eight outings is a cause for concern.

Scoring goals hasn’t been a problem for Houston this year. The Texans have only fired three blanks since the regular season resumed and have netted over 1.5 goals on five separate occasions in that time. But if Ramos’ men want to break into the top eight, they must concentrate on keeping the ball out of their own net. Indeed, the Dynamo has kept just three clean sheets in 2020.

Fortunately for Houston, Nashville is one of the lowest scoring teams in MLS this term. With just 12 goals from 16 regular-season games, only Cincinnati has netted fewer goals than Smith’s side this season.

However, what Smith’s men lack in attack, they more than make up for in defense. There may only be three teams below Nashville in the Eastern Conference, but just four teams have conceded fewer goals in the division.

The Tennessee outfit still stands an outside chance of qualifying for the play-offs, although the team’s forward players need to up their game. Daniel Rios and Walker Zimmerman are the only two men with more than one goal under their belt, and Zimmerman is a center-back!

Houston Dynamo vs. Nashville SC Betting Pick

  • Houston Dynamo to Win

I think we can all agree that this will be a low-scoring matchup. Nashville has continuously prevented teams from scoring throughout 2020, although I can see Houston’s free-flowing forward line finding a way through Smith’s backline.

I’m expecting this to be a tense affair with very few clear-cut goalscoring opportunities. However, the Dynamo has more than enough firepower to get the job done on Wednesday.
