Houston Dynamo vs. Minnesota United Pick – MLS, September 2, 2020
Considering that Houston has only won one of their seven games in 2020, it’s pretty remarkable that Vancouver is below the Texas club in the Western Conference. It has been a tough year for the Dynamo, but a thumping 5-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City last time out points towards an upturn in form.
Minnesota is Houston’s opponent on Wednesday, September 2. The Loons currently sit third in the table, but they come into this game on the back of consecutive defeats. Can Minnesota return to winning ways at BBVA Stadium?

Houston Dynamo vs. Minnesota United Betting Odds
Houston may be a long way behind Minnesota in the standings, but many of the top online soccer betting sites view the home side as the slight favorite to win this game. Having said that, the odds are very tight.
The top soccer betting sites have clearly taken the Dynamo’s recent thrashing of SKC into account when pricing up this matchup, but it is important to remember that the Loons could move to within two points of the league leader with a win on Wednesday.
When Houston crashed out of the MLS is Back Tournament last month, the club extended their winless streak to five games. The regular season resumed with the Dynamo sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference, but things are starting to look a lot brighter for the men in Orange.
The Dynamo completely dominated the Texas Derby earlier in the month but was forced to settle for a point by rival FC Dallas. However, Houston didn’t have to wait much longer for their first win of the season, and it could be argued that it was worth the wait.
Houston’s 5-2 hammering of Sporting KC served as a stark reminder of what Tab Ramos’ side is capable of. Goals from Alberth Elis, Christian Ramirez, and Niko Hansen put the Dynamo in control before a second-half Darwin Quintero double sealed the win.
Minnesota went all the way to the semi-finals of the MLS is Back Tournament, meaning the club didn’t taste defeat in their opening seven games this term. The Loons were eventually knocked out by Orlando City, and it seems as though they haven’t quite recovered from their disappointing exit in Florida.
Adrian Heath’s side returned to regular-season action with back-to-back defeats. SKC and Dallas have both beaten Minnesota since the 2020 campaign got back underway, although the team has dominated possession and registered more shots than their opponents in each of their previous two outings. In my eyes, this suggests that the Loons are on the verge of picking up three points.
Houston Dynamo vs. Minnesota United Prediction and Pick
Minnesota United to Win2.63
I think the Loons can count themselves pretty unfortunate to have away from their last two games without anything to show for their efforts. Meanwhile, I can’t help but feel that Houston’s thrashing of SKC was somewhat of a freak result. There is no denying that Minnesota has performed far better than Houston this year, so I’m backing the away side to steal the points on Wednesday.
