Houston Dynamo vs. Columbus Crew – MLS, October 24, 2020
Houston welcomes Columbus to BBVA Stadium on Saturday, October 24, with the Dynamo trailing the Crew by 14 points in the overall standings.
Columbus cemented third place in the Eastern Conference with an impressive 3-1 victory over New York City last weekend. Meanwhile, Houston sits third-bottom in the West following a 2-2 draw with Minnesota United.

Houston Dynamo vs. Columbus Crew Odds
As you can see, the bookies can’t seem to separate these two sides. Yes, Columbus (2.50) has been far better than Houston (2.50) throughout 2020. But it is worth pointing out that the Dynamo has only lost two of their eight games on home soil this season, while the Crew has won just two of their nine away outings.
Can Houston benefit once again from playing at BBVA Stadium? Let’s assess both sides’ chances.
Houston Dynamo vs. Columbus Crew Preview
Houston ended a dreadful six-game winless run by beating Texas rival FC Dallas a fortnight ago, but it didn’t take long for Tab Ramos’ side to return to losing ways. Indeed, back-to-back defeats to Inter Miami and Nashville SC saw the Dynamo slide down the standings again.
El Naranja stopped the rot with a draw against Minnesota last weekend. It seemed as though Houston was on their way to a third straight loss after going 2-0 down inside 30 minutes. But second-half goals from Memo Rodriguez and Niko Hansen earned the Dynamo a precious point.
Ramos’ men have just four-regular season games left to save their campaign. They may sit one point shy of the play-off places as things stand. But with teams both above and below them possessing numerous games in hand, Houston can’t afford anymore slip-ups.
On the flip side, Columbus booked their spot in the play-offs with a comfortable win over NYC last time out. Gyasi Zardes, Pedro Santos, and Artur all got on the scoresheet as the Crew ended a barren spell of four games without a win.
Caleb Porter’s side has been destined for a play-off place for some time, but a recent sticky patch prevented the Ohio club from securing a spot in the next phase of the competition. But last weekend, Porter’s men showed everyone that they are ready to challenge for the MLS Cup.
With a number of key players on the sidelines, it feels like Columbus still has another level to reach. When goalkeeper Eloy Room and midfielders Lucas Zelarayan and Darlington Nagbe return from injury, the Crew will be difficult to stop.
Houston Dynamo vs. Columbus Crew Pick
Columbus Crew to Win2.50
Despite the tight odds, this was an easy decision for me to make. Houston has been strong at home all season, while the Crew hasn’t always thrived on the road. But there is no denying that Columbus should win this game.
Porter’s men are back on track following a big win over NYC last time out, and I’m expecting them to build Sunday’s victory by claiming another three points this weekend.
