Hertha Berlin vs. Wolfsburg – Bundesliga, November 1, 2020

Hertha opened this Bundesliga season with a win over Werder Bremen on the road, but then suffered four consecutive defeats, including the most recent one to Leipzig. They allowed 2+ goals in each of those four losses, while the Berliners also suffered elimination out of DFB Pokal to Braunschweig. Hertha is in 15th place with three points after five rounds.

Wolfsburg drew all four games in the opening four rounds, two of which were without goals. Finally, the Wolves recorded the first win of the season, 2-1 at home over Arminia Bielefeld, and remained only one of three undefeated teams in Bundesliga. They will be looking to stay that way in the capital on Sunday, while they are currently in the 10th position with seven points.

Hertha Berlin Team News and Stats

Despite scoring more than twice as many goals as Wolfsburg, Hertha Berlin (1.8 scored per game on average) won only once so far in this season (W1, L4). This represents their worst five-game start in any of their previous ten Bundesliga campaigns in terms of both points and average goals allowed per contest (2.4 on average).

The Olympiastadion often sees dominating performances either way, with nine of Hertha’s 11 home matches in 2020 producing a 2+ goal winning difference (W3, D2, L6). Notably, Hertha won just one of the last ten matches at home in which they allowed the opening goal (W1, D1, L8), including both home games this term, each of which was HT/FT defeats.

Bruno Labbadia will be without Santiago Ascacibar (muscle), Lukas Klunter (hip), Jordan Torunarigha (ankle), and Deyoraiso Zeefuik (suspension).

Wolfsburg Team News and Stats

Visiting Wolfsburg is one of only three teams yet to taste a loss ahead of this round (W1, D4) though solidity has come at the cost of entertainment as the Wolves’ matches have produced a league-low 1.4 total goals per contest. Still, both of manager Oliver Glasner’s prior H2H duels with Hertha provided precisely three goals (W1, L1).

Typically rock-solid on their visits, Wolfsburg lost just one of their previous ten Bundesliga road matches (W6, D3, L1). Additionally, the Wolves have picked up 32 of their last 56 points away from home (57.14%), though they can be a rowdy bunch – averaging 2.68 yellow cards per match in their last 19 Bundesliga trips.

Oliver Glasner cannot count on Josip Brekalo (illness), Marin Pongracic (illness), Jeffrey Bruma (thigh), Josuha Guilavogui (muscle), Kevin Mbabu (knee), and Otavio (muscle), while William is questionable with a knee injury.

Hertha Berlin vs. Wolfsburg Betting Pick

Each team recorded three wins in the previous ten H2H encounters, while the home side failed to get a victory in the last six. Wolfsburg won both past meetings at Olympiastadion and didn’t concede a goal in each of the last three. The Wolves have one of the best defenses in Bundesliga and I wouldn’t be surprised if they manage to get another clean sheet here.

However, I am going to back the visitors to win, but I am going with a double chance and Under 4 match goals.
