I really thought that the Hanwha Eagles would at least score several runs, forcing the Bears’ offense to show up on Tuesday. Instead, Doosan was allowed to comfortably close game one of the series without breaking a sweat.

We knew that the Eagles would struggle to contain their opponent in game one of the series, but not scoring any runs of their own was too much. The offense has been the bright side of the team’s performance in the past week or so, but it was completely gone on Tuesday.

The second game should be easier for the side because the Bears are sending one of their shakier pitchers and Hanwha has the advantage here by putting Chad Bell out there. He has been struggling at the start of the season but rediscovered his form recently.

The former Tiger has been shutting down most teams he’s faced in August and his ERA and WHIP have improved dramatically compared to the first months of the season.

If Bell receives some support from the offense, the Eagles might be competitive in game two of the series.

The Bears didn’t really have to do much in the opener thanks to Alcantara. The pitcher just demolished the opponent’s offense and removed any pressure from his own batters. Four runs were enough to close the game with a victory and that’s a good start of the week.

The second fixture of the series should be much tougher, though. Seung Jin Lee is expected to start for the KBO champions and he’s been hot and cold so far. The pitcher had a couple of good games but failed to deliver against Dinos last week.

He should be much better against a mediocre team like the Eagles, but it shouldn’t be as one-sided as in the opening game.  The offense will likely have to contribute more on Wednesday if only to discourage the Eagles early on.

I believe that the Bears should come on top once again and the odds today are good enough to back them to cover the -1.5 handicap. The Eagles will be more dangerous, but they remain the worst team in the country.
