Haiti vs. Canada – CONCACAF Gold Cup, July 15, 2021

| July 15, 2021 4:49 am PDT

Canada will aim to book their spot in the 2021 Gold Cup knockouts when they come up against Haiti at Children’s Mercy Park on Thursday, July 15.

John Herdman’s side crushed Martinique 4-1 in their Group B opener, while Haiti suffered a 1-0 loss to the United States in their first game.

Before we go any further, let’s take a look at the Haiti vs. Canada odds.

Haiti to Win8.50
The Draw4.33
Canada to Win1.33
Both Teams to Score2.10
Over 2.5 Goals1.73
Over 3.5 Goals3.00

As you would expect, Canada (1.36) is the bookies’ clear favorite to win this one, leaving Haiti (8.75) as the rank outsider.

In search of better value, I have chosen to include some goal-based markets here. Following the Canadians’ high-scoring victory last time out, we could see plenty of offensive action on Thursday.

I analyze both sides’ chances below.

Can Haiti Upset the Gold Cup Odds?

It’s fair to say that Jean-Jacques Pierre’s men gave a great account of themselves in their opening game against the USA last Sunday.

Facing one of the pre-tournament favorites, Haiti managed to register ten shots – three of which hit the target – while limiting the States to just a single goal.

Unsurprisingly, the Caribbean nation only saw 37% of the ball, allowing the US to dominate possession. But with the odds heavily stacked against them, the Haitians can be proud of their efforts.

However, it will surely be difficult for Pierre’s men to produce another high-energy performance against another top team. Having put so much into their previous display, they could struggle to compete on Thursday.

Oh, and let’s not forget that Canada picked up two straight wins over Haiti last month – securing 1-0 and 3-0 victories in World Cup qualifying.

Canada Should Secure Back-to-Back Wins

Canada’s Gold Cup campaign got off to the worst possible start, with a defensive mistake handing Martinique a shock early lead. But three quick-fire goals swiftly put the Reds back on track.

Cyle Larin, Jonathan Osorio, and Stephen Eustaquio all found the back of the net before the 30-minute mark before Theo Corbeanu completed the 4-1 rout with a last-minute strike.

The Canucks notched an 89% pass accuracy against the Group B underdogs and also enjoyed 66% possession.

When you consider the bigger picture, Herdman’s men have now won each of their last seven games in all competitions. Better still, they have scored 35 goals while conceding just twice in that time.

Not only did the Canadian scored four goals across their two meetings with Haiti last month, but they also kept two clean sheets in the process. I expect a similar outcome this time around.

My Haiti vs. Canada Betting Pick

  • Canada to Win and Over 2.5 Goals

While backing Canada at 1.33 isn’t the worst bet in the world, the price is pretty low. For that reason, I recommend adding the over 2.5 goals market into the mix to boost the odds.

The Canucks have been scoring goals for fun of late, with nine of their last 11 matches dishing up over 2.5 goals. They put three goals past Haiti just last month, too – underlining their superiority.

If you’re looking for a safe bet for Haiti vs. Canada, back the Canadians to win. But I suggest throwing the over 2.5 goals market into the equation if you want to up the value.
