Gulfstream Park Picks – Saturday, September 12, 2020

| September 12, 2020 12:01 am PDT

Gulfstream Park presents an even mix of allowance, maiden, and claiming races for Saturday, September 12, 2020. Despite a slight drying up earlier in the week, expect the tracks—both dirt and turf—to be soggy as new thunderstorms move in to pick up where the old ones left off.

Now, here are my Gulfstream Park betting picks and tips for the three richest races for Saturday, September 12, 2020.

Pick for Gulfstream Park Race 1

This is a maiden special weight race for two-year-olds running a distance of five furlongs on turf for a purse of $60,000.

I’m sticking with the 5/2 morning line favorite here—Drain the Clock, with Edgard Zayas in the irons. Like most of his competitors, this colt has no record of starts, but he has shown solid performance in recent workouts. And breaking from the post position should prove to be no impediment for a jockey of Zayas’ standing.

I see no longer-odds entries in this race worth the risk, so save your longshot money for later.

  • Win: Drain the Clock 5/2

Pick for Gulfstream Park Race 5

This is a maiden special weight race for two-year-old Florida-bred fillies running a distance of five furlongs for a purse of $55,000.

I’m in agreement with the morning line in this race, as well—I like the 5/2 favorite, Briella, with Miguel A. Vasquez aboard. This filly moneyed her single career start and has shown good performance in recent workouts at distance.

And once again, I see no longer-odds entries worthy of even a show bet.

  • Win: Briella 5/2

Picks for Gulfstream Park Race 10

This is an allowance optional claiming race for two-year-olds running a distance of six furlongs for a purse of $54,500.

I’m going with the second-favored (3/1) entry in this race–Swaggy George, with Edgard Zayas in the irons. This colt won his single career start (as did the favorite).

At 20/1, I think Hall Rich Legacy, with Joseph Trejos aboard, warrants a show bet. This colt moneyed two of his five career starts, and he has the advantage of Trejos’ seven-pound apprentice allowance. It could happen.

  • Win: Swaggy George 3/1
  • Show: Hall Rich Legacy 20/1
