Gulfstream Park Picks – Thursday, January 28, 2021

| January 27, 2021 2:19 pm PDT

Gulfstream Park continues its thoroughbred racing week with a ten-race card of maiden, starter, and claiming races for our Thursday’s wagering entertainment.

Remember that while I review the three richest races here, you can find Gulfstream Park’s entire ten-race card for Thursday — including horses, jockeys, trainers, M/L odds, and wagering options — at one of our top horse racing betting sites.

Now, read on for my Gulfstream Park picks and betting tips for Thursday, January 28, 2021.

Pick for Gulfstream Park Race 4

This is a claiming race for three-year-olds running a distance of one mile on turf for a purse of $37,000.

I like the second-favored (3/1) entry in this race — Go, Mike, ridden by Junior Alvarado. This colt moneyed three of his five career starts, winning two.

There are two entries at 12/1 — the longest odds in this race — but I don’t see either of those earning a paycheck at the finish line, so no value show bet for us this race.

  •  Win: Go Mike 3/1

Picks for Gulfstream Park Race 5

This is a maiden claiming race for three-year-old fillies running a distance of five furlongs on turf for a purse of $39,000.

If Irad Ortiz, Jr. rides the 5/2 morning line favorite, Dontpushyourluck, then bet them to win. This filly moneyed two of her three career starts and has done well in recent workouts.

If Irad rides the also-eligible/MTO Platinum Artist, however, then you will need to switch your win ticket to the second-favored (7/2) Driving Wind, with Luis Saez in the irons. This filly moneyed three of her four career starts, and she, also has shown good times in recent workouts.

That 30/1 longshot looks interesting, and I believe Red Wind, with Leonel Reyes aboard, might just have a shot at a money finish. This filly did not finish in the money for her single career start, but her times in recent workouts suggest strongly that she will be a contender in this race. Certainly worth a show ticket.

  •  Win: Dontpushyourluck 5/2 (if starts)
  •  Win: Driving Wind 7/2 (otherwise)
  •  Show: Red Wind 30/1

Picks for Gulfstream Park Race 6

This is a maiden special weight race for three-year-olds running a distance of 6-1/2 furlongs for a purse of $40,000.

I’m backing the second-favored (3/1) entry in this race — Joshy Jak, with Junior Alvarado aboard. I touted this colt for the win in another race a little over a week ago at Gulfstream, and while he did finish in the money, that third-place wasn’t exactly the winner’s circle. But that was then, this is now. The switch to Alvarado at the helm may make a difference.

The presence of a 20/1 longshot in a seven-horse race always piques my interest, and I think Taleoftwobrothers, with veteran jockey Jesus M. Rios in the irons, might just make us some show ticket money. This colt did not finish in the money for his single career start, but his recent workouts show significant improvement, and an experienced jockey like Rios can only improve upon this mount’s natural talents.

  •  Win: Joshy Jak 3/1
  •  Show: Taleoftwobrothers 20/1

My Thursday Predictions for Other Tracks

Gulfstream Park had plenty of profit opportunities for us, but don’t forget, I also reviewed two other tracks for Thursday:
